While our dline is great it's all about matchup because whoever is out there is shooting up field trying to get a sack. Doesn't matchup against Auburn or South Carolina but I bet we look unstoppable against tu. Its not the QB it's the blocking scheme. Sark will have guys running all over the field but doesn't do alot with oline.
Uh our D Line isn't great. They look good in their uniforms, but play poorly.
30 quarters without a holding call could be why they aren't great
Maybe, but we aren't great because our front 7 can't generate any pressure on their own. We have to bring DBs to actually get pressure on the QB. Then we better contain and bring the QB down quick, or we're exposed. That last drive in regulation by Auburn was a prime example of that. Where the hell are all your edge rushers in that situation? We have some, but they don't ever get on the field? I really don't like how big and slow we are across the entire DL.
Yep, lots of overload on the final drive in regulation that Freeze recognized and abused. If our DL is so good, they should be able to get pressure with 4, but that has not really been the case. On Saturday, our blitzes were not nearly as well disguised as earlier in the year, no pressure towards the interior OL, it was all stunted outside, became predictable. We are susceptible to QBs with any decent vision to run up the middle as outside rushers often go too far upfield.
Well, not on 4th and 2 from Auburns 35 yard line…
We had 3 defensive linemen (that's it) to guard the middle of the field against 11 personnel. In other words- they had 5 Olinemen, 1 qb, and a RB that had been gashing us all night, in the box and we had THREE guys to defend it from tackle to tackle - both linebackers bailed to the flats at the snap.
We get that stop and the game is over. If we give up the first down and just make the tackle for a 5 yard gain, they likely run out of time before getting in field goal range.
If you're Hugh Freeze, you look out there at that and shed a single tear of pure joy and surprise. A gift.
25 yard qb draw straight up the middle.
