Does anyone know why we hired Jay Bateman?

Not sure what his qualifications were as they didn't look great from what I saw previously. Not sure why we promoted a linebackers coach from Florida (at a school that had a bad defense) to our defensive coordinator coach. He also did quite poorly at North Carolina as he was asked to leave with their defense on a downward trajectory.

I know they were buddies but come on. Very questionable hire there. We need to examine who is available and focus on the resumes / accomplishments as opposed to buddies.

Wondered this when we made the hire. Unfortunately, he's staying to really make it seem like we were right to question it

Probably all we could afford bc we over paid for Klien.

I'm far more concerned with what I've seen from Bateman than what I've seen from Klein.

Let's look for a retired insurance salesman.

Both coordinator hires by Elko were head scratching.

Freakin smirkin Durkin out coached Bateman. It's appeared in a couple of games that Elko has taken over defensive playcalling, so why is Bateman even here?

Then there's Klein's peewee Big 12 offense that just doesn't cut it in the SEC. But yet again he's one of these over hyped supposed up and comers that is trying to learn on the job. He's Spav 2.0.

I wonder if he made those decisions because we don't have the funds we had with Jimbo. Between the buyout we are paying Jimbo and reallocating funds from football to the other athletic departments, we may not have as many options.

Even with that said, you would think he could find a young up and coming defensive coordinator. He may pan out or crash but at least it's a chance. Bateman appears to have been crashing before we hired him.

Elko's job is to take over Bateman's play calling if the play calling is poor - hell we rehired a defensive-minded coach. Just like Elko told Klein to call some running plays back in the beginning of the season

What you are seeing is the exact same thing we saw with Jimbo and his OC hires

Maybe Brian Kelly would take him. He's seeing Jimbo live the high live with a similar contract in which he makes millions to relax. Why not do the same? I don't he will be able to win a title.
