... could we still get into the SEC Championship Game against Georgia by beating the sips next week - even if our comeback falls short tonight?
Hi, Im Brett

Yes. A&M / tx winner would face Georgia

Ok, you're right. I thought they went to rankings, but I forgot they use common opponents first.

Good grief South Carolina is looking like they could have a shot at the playoffs with a win over Clemson at the rate dominos are falling right now

Thanks.

Then i'll be cheering for the Sooners for the first time - outside of their annual pillow fight with the sips!

How? If we win tonight, and lose next week, we finish 6-2, tied with Georgia. Georgia would have a better record against common opponents (wins over Texas and Auburn).

These are the SEC tie breaker rules:
  • Head-to-head competition among the tied teams
  • Record versus all common Conference opponents among the tied teams
  • Record against highest (best) placed common Conference opponent in the Conference standings, and proceeding through the Conference standings among the tied teams
  • Cumulative Conference winning percentage of all Conference opponents among the tied teams
  • Capped relative total scoring margin versus all Conference opponents among the tied teams
  • Random draw of the tied teams

  • If Bama loses, I think it makes tonight's game against Auburn meaningless. If we win next week, we finish 6-2, tied with Georgia, Texas, and Tenn. Georgia is in, because they have wins over both Texas and Tenn. We would have a win over Texas, so we would be over them. We would have the common opponent over Tenn, because we beat Ark.

So, I think if Bama loses, Georgia is in regardless, and Tenn is out. Winner of us and Texas is in.
