Q: in a fair world, what would be an appropriate response to a team who was advantaged by their fans throwing trash on the field?

(I get that it'll probably be a wrist slap, but given the precedent that this generated, a fair response would be fitting, proportional, and rough enough to stay the hands of drunk fans in future similar situations.)

Tennessee got a $250k fine for similar, seeing as their actions changed a call in the game I would say higher.

But being Texas they probably won't get any punishment

The kind of thing you might expect from LSU. Bottom line, I don't recall anything like that in the SEC. A real poor look for CFB, SEC and Texas. I expect it will be a hefty fine. Remember, you can be voted out....

The SEC will have to fine tu at least $250,000 as that was set previously by the fine levied against Tennessee. However, given the events that unfolded after the trash debris on the field as well as try to strongly enforce it from occurring in the future, the fine should be higher by the SEC office.

The alcohol sales thing might have some merit… of course folks will bring their own like they've always done - but it at least pretends to be a punishment commensurate to fan malfeasance.

The refs are more culpable than the school and should be punished.

The refs:
- Reversed an unreviewable call. They had already set the ball for crying out loud.
- Never penalized or gave a warning to Texas for causing a delay of game

The refs absolutely set a precedent to encourage schools to behave like this.

They should definitely fine tu at the same level as UTenn was fined a few years ago.

Exactly why it'd be such a good fit. No assigned / purchased seat issues. Punishes the culprits. Dissuades other / future student bodies. Some visible shame. Hits their home field advantage…. In other words: a fitting punishment.

Find those responsible using video evidence and hold them accountable. 2 year stadium ban and violation on record. Any repeat offense results in lifetime ban.

I think an appropriate punishment would be heavily biased officiating in Texas A&M's favor when we play them. I think that would teach their fans not to throw trash on the field any more.
