It's a hypothetical so yes obviously there's a long way to go before this could even be a possibility....

Scenario:

-A&M and Texas both run the table leading up to our game.
-We have two conference undefeated teams and no matter who wins/loses likely means a rematch of the game in the SEC Championship game
-Both teams obviously would be in the playoff picture before they match up.

Question:
If the same team wins both the regular season matchup and the SEC Championship game, is the loser suddenly on the outside looking in at the playoffs with back to back losses?

I'd think no? If Texas is the loser in that scenario they are still 11-2 with both losses being to a Top 10 ranked A&M team. If A&M is the loser A&M is 10-3 with the last two losses being as a top 10 team losing to likely the #1 ranked team in the country.

Would be interesting to see play out and if they did leave the loser out in that scenario it would be a likely argument to eliminate conference championship games.

the team that lost twice would still get in. the committee has protected teams already in the top 12 that lost conference championship games in the past when doling out NY6 bowl games

I'd hope so....and if the teams split in that scenario it would be an even better argument to eliminate conference championship games. You'd have two teams each with 1 conference loss to each other yet 1 of them would be named conference champs.

until networks stop paying for them, I don't see the CCG going away. nor should they in my opinion. winning your conference needs to continue to mean something

The real issue is if we go 10-2(6-1) and then lose the CCG to finish 10-3. Especially if 2 of those losses are to tu. There will be a major push to put all of the 10-2 SEC teams in over us. Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Bama would all get preference with their names and, more importantly, their starting point in the rankings.

And the sad part is that we don't get to play any of them so we'd just have to sit back and see if the committee gives credit to the 7-1 regular season or not.

yeah, I think 11-2 tu gets in no problem, but a 10-3 A&M could get left out. The other thing to think about is that the A&M/tu regular season loser would be 7-1 in the SEC in this scenario. I think Ole Miss has a real shot at 7-1 as does the Bama/Tenn winner so it's not a foregone conclusion that it would an A&M/tu rematch in the SEC championship, it could come down to tiebreakers, most likely "Cumulative SEC winning percentage of all conference opponents among the tied teams"

I'm not aware of what the tie breaker is but if that is it, and our 1 loss is Texas we'd have to win that tiebreaker...

I forgot and left out, I know none of this will never happen because we aren't losing another game.

Natty, give it to them.

SEC tiebreakers are:

Head-to-head competition among the tied teams.
Record vs. all common SEC opponents among the tied teams.
Record against the highest (best) placed common SEC opponent in the conference standings, proceeding through the SEC standings among the tied teams.
Cumulative SEC winning percentage of all conference opponents among the tied teams.
Capped relative total scoring margin vs. all SEC opponents among the tied teams.
Random draw.

Using Kelley Ford Rankings and assuming no upsets (unlikely), then tu goes 8-0 in the SEC and we tie Ole Miss for 2nd at 7-1. We would beat Ole Miss for the SEC Championship game due to Missour, Aubuen & Texas being 13-11 vs Ole Miss' opponents Kentucky, OU, & UGA being 11-13.

Interestingly enough, if the only upset is us beating tu, then tu would beat ole miss in a tiebreaker due to vandy and A&M being 9-7 vs Scar and LSU being 8-8

I'm just a casual fan

Probably hard nowadays for an overweight coach to lose weight with the stress from the grind...
