It's a hypothetical so yes obviously there's a long way to go before this could even be a possibility....
Scenario:
-A&M and Texas both run the table leading up to our game.
-We have two conference undefeated teams and no matter who wins/loses likely means a rematch of the game in the SEC Championship game
-Both teams obviously would be in the playoff picture before they match up.
Question:
If the same team wins both the regular season matchup and the SEC Championship game, is the loser suddenly on the outside looking in at the playoffs with back to back losses?
I'd think no? If Texas is the loser in that scenario they are still 11-2 with both losses being to a Top 10 ranked A&M team. If A&M is the loser A&M is 10-3 with the last two losses being as a top 10 team losing to likely the #1 ranked team in the country.
Would be interesting to see play out and if they did leave the loser out in that scenario it would be a likely argument to eliminate conference championship games.
