Collin Klein as a QB coach: who has he developed?

I'm still trying to square the circle from Saturday regarding Weigman's performance.

One piece of the puzzle I haven't seen treated in-depth is Collin Klein's QB development chops. Sure, he was a very successful QB, and, I'm willing to believe, a great offensive mind.

But is it possible that Klein is lacking when it comes to mentoring QBs? Is this something where we could add some veteran coaching talent to the staff and get some immediate improvements (both in Weigman and Klein)?

Ryan Day seemed to be happy with the QB he developed.

I'm wondering if Klein thought he could and or tried to bring the KSt qb with him? Would make more sense with what we are doing now.

Now do [JFF's QB coach] and JFF.

Unless by "next question" you are conceding that there's only one datapoint, (a.k.a. "anecdata" in more egghead circles) to establish Klein's QB development chops.

Jake Spavital gets credit for developing a quarterback that he didn't coach until after that player won the Heisman trophy?

Fair point. I plead guilt to lazy posting. EIF removed, but my point stands

JFFs qb coach was Kliff Kingsbury who has coached Case Keenum, Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, and Caleb Williams soooo yeah, better pedigree than Collin Klein over more than one data point.

Avery Johnson is Kleins recruit at KSU. True freshman last year. Klein brought him off the bench a lot as a spark / change of pace. He runs like a jackrabbit at 6'2" 192 lbs.

Conner said in his presser that he didn't watch the game film w Collin.... but that he watched it on his own & then Collin asked him what he saw....

I'm sure a bunch of goaltenders will jump on me but how the **** is that appropriate?

We're talking about one of the worst qb performances in school history, and the oc "qb whisperer" doesn't take the time to watch the film w Conner & go over all the failures?

Either Conner lied in the presser or something is seriously rank w this coaching staff

Who the heck would ever have called Collin Klein a qb whisperer? That was a nickname applied by some for Jimbo Fisher?

Yeah, people on here love to make up stuff so they can have a reason to hate on coaches and players.

Is it possible that they both watched the film separately to allow Conner to look at it without any distraction and then went back and watched it again together? Or do we assume that because somebody said something that nothing else could possibly have happened after the fact?

Christ.

Let me tell you something about sports

You can have the best coaches in the world and it won't matter if the guy doesn't have the measurements, heart, and desire

And sometimes you just don't know what you have until years later
That's why we alway look back at drafts from 3-4 years ago not last year

Do you understand how coaching time limits work in college? Klein has a limited amount of hours each week with Conner and I'd rather him spend it working on drills to correct the problem and looking at film of upcoming opponents. If he had infinite time to review then sure, but he doesn't.

He's also much older so that's really not a fair comparison.

No. Klein is fine. Maybe Weigman will be fine every game from now on, but last Saturday he sucked about as bad as you can suck for an A&M QB and that's really saying something.

I've looked forward to seeing Weigman, I've been a big believer. But I'm not stupid enough to deny the crap I saw last Saturday. He was putrid, it wasn't Klein, the oline, Elko, or the WRs.

Exactly right. Originally the OP above tried to basically say Klein<Spav because Spav developed JFF, then he changed it to [JFFs qb coach] when pointed out that Spav coached Manziel only after he already was a Heisman winner.

I was filling in his blank for him, because as you say, its a ridiculous comparison, since we struck gold if Klein ends up being remotely comparable to Kingsbury.
