Is this because the NFL took over Thanksgiving day?

It makes us look proactive, but the NFL now owns Thanksgiving and has its sights on Black Friday.

They just moved the Egg Bowl to Friday too. Gonna make the post-Thanksgiving tryptophan coma real boring.

This is great news. Besides doing what's best for the fans it also shows Elko knows what's best for his team and recruiting. Easy decision by Elko and Alberts!

The numbers came out this week.

Top three weekly broadcast numbers from last year.

1-Sunday Night Football around 19 mil
2-Monday Night Football around 11 mil
3-Thursday Night Football around 10 mil

And I have no doubt that Thursday night NFL game on Thanksgiving is even higher than the average.

No other broadcast or shows were even close. NFL is King at this time.

Definitely don't mind having that day off so can be with family.

Does this mean will still have to get on the same field with them?

Are A&M's core values..optional? Who has the POWER to determine that? Are certain departments exempt? Why?

I loved it on Thanksgiving when it was the only game in town. A huge part of me is sad that it isn't that way anymore.

Next we need to get it scheduled for the week after sip plays their butt buddies at the red river.

Put LSU back on Saturday night /thanksgiving weekend. Much better away trip.

The SEC don't belong horns game should be at the end of September or 1st week in October.

Already they are dead weight on this conference.

Texas wants us back as their main rival. Sorry Texas....you will always play 2nd fiddle as we are on level playing ground. DC can whine, *****, and moan all day long to the natl media and their social channels but A&M is gonna own this decision.

Hear me Sips? You will NOT be allowed to renew the Thanksgiving game day schedule. We aint doing it and want to keep LSU as our end of season matchup.

Texas is now just another tree in a giant forest.

We have the NFL games on usually due to the tradition of watching football but unless it is a team someone happens to care about, it is just background noise and nobody is actually watching.

Best for the fans is never a consideration and what works really for some fans does not work for others
And may not work for the BCS chamber of commerce or the SEC broadcast partners

I will agree this is best for the players
Playing on a short week is not ideal and seems likely the late season OOC cupcake is going away

I'd prefer the Twelfth of Never…then Texas can sing this song to us…except much more creepily…

Our ratings would completely suck just like they did the last severael years in the Big 12. We want people to actually watch the game like they did back in the 80s when it was on ESPN Thanksgiving Night.

Those times are gone because of the NFL takeover of that time slot.

Friday Night or Saturday Night on thanksgiving weekend. In!

Thanksgiving Night?

Hard pass.

Thanksgiving night games were the greatest. Like the Egg Bowl, but x 100. Turkey sandwiches and everything else laid out. Food and Football and Family all in one.

I would love to play them annually on Thanksgiving. But unless the schedule changes, we won't be playing them annually anyway. LSU is our perm.

I agree that playing Texas on the Saturday after Thanksgiving is better because there will be 3 NFL games on every Thanksgiving Day and one NFL game on every Black Friday.

While you are correct right now, I think ESPN will be work out a deal in the winter to agree to pay the SEC for the 9th game, likely working to broadcast it on TNT or Amazon or some other partner network.

In part, yes. But, there's also that fact that it's bad for competitive reasons (quick turnaround) and bad for fans that actually attend the game as opposed to watching on TV. For fans who plan to attend the game, a Thursday game eliminates family gatherings unless you live really close to Kyle Field. It also would hurt student attendance; perhaps not this first time, but in subsequent years, it would be an issue.

Ultimately, I would prefer to play the sips earlier in the season, on a weekend when everyone is in town. College Station is not the same on a holiday weekend.

How is playing on Saturday bad for the fans compared to Thanksgiving?

I get it. You like it that day.

But it's not better for the fans and students in any shape or form. College football games are meant for Saturday. All 11 games up to that point are on Saturday. But somehow you think Saturday is not best for the fans that last weekend. Alrighty
