I'm not one of those who complain about the money these "student" athletes are making. But this doesn't look great to me when you consider the very recent past driving records of Georgia football players. Wouldn't you be asking them to lay at least a little low if you were Kirby....

There's a pretty long track record of kids living extravagant lifestyle not turning out well later in life, but I guess we'll see where all of this leads

Not looking good if you're spending 300k on a iffy SUV.

No, if I'm Kirby I'm telling him to post it on every social media platform he's on, tag me in it, and take a few laps around campus & the stadium in it. Seems like a hell of a recruiting pitch.

to me there is something wrong when guys get paid more in college than pro ball which is absolutely happening in some cases. i don't fault the kid for taking it but damn that's pretty insane.

put another way. there are a double digit number of college quarterbacks making more money than Brock Purdy who will be starting in the super bowl.

Just as all of this was getting rolled out years ago, the thought occurred to me that there needs to be a mandated financial management aspect to all of this, in service to the athletes. Somehow, there should be a way to protect them by putting x% into a long term investment pool, that they can't access for 15-20 years.

Otherwise, most will piss away the money, and be broke again.

I do not agree with NIL, but what right does someone have to sequester another's money? It sounds pretty patronizing to me.

The guys writing the checks can structure however they want
Of course they'd lose some recruits in the short term but the kids that are looking at the big picture and getting good advice would be ok with it

I don't get it. It's an SUV. If it were a sports car, I could understand spending $300,000 on a Lamborghini, but for an SUV, why not just get a Ford or a GM?

There is financial management course Required by state law in Texas. (As well as Georgia and probably every state with NIL law)

That's a lot of scratch to put down on an iffy SUV. Can you lease those luxury cars?

All this money, none of it's guaranteed to continue. A couple million can be a great nest egg to start you off in life, but sh*t happens, injuries (god forbid) happen.

Yes. Nearly a decade ago $1,700/mo would keep you in a new Lambo. Not sure where they're at these days. Still insane, especially with compounding interest cycles from teens.

Reminds me of Ashton Kutcher in old school MTV Cribs. Lived in an average house. Had a D90 IIRC. Said something tot he effect of not knowing if it would last. That's served him well.

We want the best QB in the country but only if he drives a used Toyota Corolla.

Honestly who cares what he drives? People can't get through their heads that if he wins a title at UGA he is worth a stupidly priced sports car.

Im more concerned with, if you're buying a lambo why would you buy a freaking suv! Such a waste of a supercar.

As the Op here I have to say that it was never my intention to question the payments anyone is receiving via NIL. It was to question the Georgia football program and suggest maybe they stay away from promoting fast cars after their recent history with drunken street racing and moving vehicle type arrests.

should UGA tell players to only get cars that go slower than that one does?

Agree - but you cannot legislate common sense or fiscal sense. Just look at the vast majority of professional athletes that made tens of millions of dollars - only to wind up broke. It is a horrible shame!!
