At best it's the equivalent of the Monster HDMI cable scam pushed by electronics stores years ago, "premium" quality on paper with no practical difference. Or at worst, see King's post above.
Not to derail the OP, but I actually needed a new HDMI cable. Walked into Best Buy where they always kept them before and saw premium cables going for $500-$1000. Asked the guy where "my cables" and asked about those... basically the answer I got is for people who like to spend $$$$$$$ on AV, might as well sell it to them.
Nah, man, I believe most Best Buy employees actually believed the drivel they were spouting with those gold Monster cables.
Before kids, we had a fairly large tailgate. We wanted to move a TV so I went there to get a longer HDMI. I couldn't find any "normal" ones and I'm not spending hundreds of dollars for a longer HDMI cable that we use outside, like 8 times a year. I asked an employee if they some and he went into this long ass spiel about how they only carry these because the others are inferior. I was like thanks, we'll just make do this week and I'll order one from monoprice. That got him on another spiel about how I was stupid, that cable wouldn't hold up, the run was too long, it'd be a terrible picture, and I'd be back. Well, we retired the tailgate (hopefully temporarily) and that cable is still fine.
