Just tell some guys they have to leave after spring ball? What is the rule? I am aware that we can only have an 85 man roster for fall but what are the portal spring rules about guys on campus?

Well someone has to pay their tuition and fees and I guarantee they don't want to.

That's a valid question but yeah we can have 105 people with the team on first day of school and can actually add more after

There is no limit to guys you can have on scholarship in the Spring. But when Fall camp starts you have to be at 85 or less.

I think we are at exactly 85 now (including Bussey). We could sign more guys knowing we will have more portals out after spring ball when guys see they are not going to play. I hope we go into Spring with around 90, so we aren't way under after the next portal window.

My point is if you give kids enough NIL then you do not have to have them on Scholarship. Scholarships no longer matter. Someone is bound to test this soon.

We are between 84 and 86 and that includes Bussey. I think it's actually 84 or 85. The 86th would be the kicker from Georgia but I'm pretty sure he's a walk on.

If we tossed out enough NIL, got all the players, other schools wouldn't have enough players to field a team. Undefeated national champs!

It is hard to keep up with all the portal guys but we are right at the 85 max and I expect more portal guys to come. Hoping for a true NT, another receiver and 1 more corner.

It has more to do with the debate over the Georgia kicker and Jerry Johnson.

Your article just rambles. It makes no statement of fact regarding scholarship numbers.

If there was a hard limit, we'd have to worry about early enrollees who come in the spring versus those from the same class that don't come in until the summer or fall.

I have no reason to believe that the Texas A&M athletic department doesn't know more about this than everyone on this forum and the reporter that wrote your article.

Yall are forgetting back when Jackie Sherrill had 10 of the 11 kickoff coverage guys as walk ons. I'm sure we had about 15-20 guys on that squad. No scholarships but the practiced with the team.

I seem to recall teams suiting up close to 100 players tho only 85 were on scholarship. NIL could be used to fund a non scholarship walk on type group that could provide depth etc. it does create a potential abuse issue if it got out of control.

It gives guys who maybe aren't fully developed at high school a place to perhaps grow into a decent player.

I think "preferred walk ons" are the nil only players of which you are alluding to.

Except that isn't how this works. You want to be jealous of players that traditionally received less than cost of attendance and often came from financially disadvantaged families and were required by the white peoole running the NCAA…especially Northeastern elite schools and Southern schools to accept all loss of rights when signing the grants in aid.
