Diana N. Tapley has passed away at 94 years old. She didn't graduate from A&M but she lived her life as if she did. She moved to College Station in the mid 50's with Robert S. Tapley and their 3 children. Robert (Tap) graduated from Texas A&M in 1958 and went on to be a professor in the physics department at A&M and owned a farm in Hearne. In 1967 he decided to buy a restaurant for his beloved, Diana, as a gift. What started out as a drive thru hamburger joint eventually blossomed into the fine dining establishment that most old Aggies know as The Texan. The couple ran the restaurant together until Tap's death in 1991 after which she continued cooking in the kitchen until its final closure in 2000 after 33 years in business. After the closure she continued cooking and baking pies for friends and family, even taking the ingredients of her doctor's favorite salad to her appointments. She cherished the relationships she built over her lifetime and had a schedule of phone calls, letters, cards and visits so she never missed a special occasion. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several of which she got to see graduate from Texas A&M. She was a one of a kind lady and could not have been more loved by so many people. It's our duty now to celebrate her for all her greatness and continue her legacy. If anyone had an experience at The Texan, I would love to read about it here. If anyone knew her and would like to come to her celebration of life, you are more than welcome to join us. She will be greatly missed and is the most caring person I've ever known, if you were lucky enough to know her I'm sure you felt the same about her.
