Full breakdown of stats of players or team stats of coaches prior to them getting the jobs at their old schools then the stats after they took over to see the impact they had and maybe what we can expect within a year or two of them being at A&M. Feel free to add any stats or anything I missed would love to read how y'all think these coaches are going to effect our 2024 season

Colin Klein: Offensive Coordinator
Became full Offensive Coordinator in January 2022
KState offense pre Klein OC:
2021 Season
PPG: 27.5, Total Points: 358, Total Touchdowns: 46, Total Yards: 4,710, YPG: 362.3
2022 Season
PPG: 32.3, Total Points: 452, Total Touchdowns: 56, Total Yards: 5,863, YPG: 418
2023 Season
PPG: 36.9, Total Points: 480, Total Touchdowns: 64, Total Yards: 5,788, YPG: 445.2

When looking at the yearly statistics you see a major improvement in all categories after Klein took over hopefully that will translate at A&M as well. It think with Elko fully trusting Klein unlike Jimbo did with his OCs I think we can finally see our offensive studs blossom into who they were touted to be.

Jay Bateman DC/LB Coach (I am going to treat this as a LB Coach only as I believe that Elko will be the mastermind behind the defensive scheme and will mainly rely on Bateman to call the games on the defensive side)
Became Florida ILB Coach in January of 2022, looking at the top 5 LBs from each year based on total tackles
2021 Season
Mohamoud Diabate: 89 Total tackles, 34 solo, 55 assisted
Ty'ron Hopper: 62 Total Tackles, 32 solo, 30 assisted, 2.5 sacks, 2 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble
Jeremiah Moon: 49 Total Tackles, 20 solo, 29 assisted, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble
Amari Burney: 44 Total Tackles, 25 solo, 19 assisted, 3 pass deflections
Brenton Cox Jr.: 41 Total Tackles, 26 solo, 15 assisted, 8.5 sacks, 4 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble
2022 Season
Amari Burney: 79 Total Tackles, 41 solo, 38 assisted, 4 sacks, 4 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble return
Ventrell Miller: 75 Total Tackles, 34 solo, 41 assisted, 2 pass deflection, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble return
Shemar James: 47 Total Tackles, 18 solo, 29 assisted, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble return
Brenton Cox Jr.: 35 Total Tackles, 15 solo, 20 assisted, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection
Derek Wingo: 24 Total Tackles, 8 solo, 16 assisted, 2 sacks
2023 Season
Shemar James: 55 Total Tackles, 24 solo, 31 assisted, 1 sack
Scooby Williams: 52 Total Tackles, 27 solo, 25 assisted, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles
Mannie Nunnery: 28 Total Tackles, 11 solo, 17 assisted, 0.5 sack, 1 forced fumble
Teradja Mitchell: 23 Total Tackles, 13 solo, 10 assisted,
Derek Wingo: 18 Total Tackles, 7 solo, 11 assisted, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass deflection

From 2021 to 2022 while there seems to be a slight decrease in total tackles there is an increase in other statistical categories especially forced fumbles and fumble returns, you also see an increase in sacks should you remove the statistical outlier in Brenton Cox in his 2021 season. This could mean better coaching across the board for linebackers as one person doesn't have to carry most of the weight. However the 2023 season is odd and I am hesitant to use that as the Florida defense as a whole had regressed; no one on the defense had more than 59 total tackles. I am adding it for context as Bateman as an LB coach however there is probably more in play as to the regression of the linebackers. I am not familiar with Florida's defensive turnovers between the 2022 and 23 season so if anyone else could add on to that I would be appreciative.

Trooper Taylor Running Backs Coach
Became Dukes running back coach prior to the 2022 season after previously being the WR and CB coach and assistant head coach for the blue devils
2021 Season
Mantaeo Durant: 255 Carries, 1,241 yards, 4.9 AVG, 59 long, 9 touchdowns
Jordan Waters: 29 Carries, 197 yards, 5.1 AVG, 30 long, 3 touchdowns
2022 Season
Jordan Waters: 123 Carries, 566 yards, 4.6 AVG, 42 long, 8 touchdowns
Jaquez Moore: 79 Carries, 508 yards, 6.4 AVG, 59 long, 5 touchdowns
Jaylen Coleman: 102 Carries, 480 yards, 4.7 AVG, 37 long, 4 touchdowns
2023 Season
Jordan Waters: 153 Carries, 819 yards, 5.4 AVG, 83 long, 12 touchdowns
Jaquez Moore: 116 Carries, 674 yards, 5.8 AVG, 58 long, 6 touchdowns
Jaylen Coleman: 46 Carries, 170 yards, 3.7 AVG, 15 long, 1 touchdown
The reason for having 3 RBs for the 22 and 23 seasons as opposed to 2 in the 21 season is that the 21 season only had two notable running backs. I believe these stats show promise as during the 22 and 23 seasons they did not have to rely on one talented running back like they had to in 2021 and we had to with Achane in the 2022 season another point of note is during the 22 season the leading rusher was actually their QB Riley Leonard. I think these stats show that Taylor is going to be able to develop our already solid running backs to become very consistent across the board and not force us to rely on a single person to get the rushing game going.

Holman Wiggins Wide Receiver Coach
Became Alabama's Wide Receiver coach in 2019 and has developed several NFL talents including Jaylen Waddle, Jerry Jeudy, along with his crown jewel in the 2020 heisman DaVonta Smith
2018 Season
Jerry Jeudy: 68 receptions, 1,315 yards, 19.3 average, 14 touchdowns
Jaylen Waddle: 45 receptions, 848 yards, 18.8 average, 7 touchdowns
Henry Ruggs 3: 46 receptions, 741 yards, 16.1 average, 11 touchdowns
2019 Season
DeVonta Smith: 68 receptions, 1,256 yards, 18.5 average, 14 touchdowns
Jerry Jeudy: 77 receptions, 1,163 yards, 15.1 average, 10 touchdowns
Henry Ruggs 3: 40 receptions, 746 yards, 18.6 average, 7 touchdowns
2020 Season
DeVonta Smith: 117 receptions, 1,856 yards, 15.9 average, 23 touchdowns
John Metchie 3: 55 receptions, 916 yards, 16.7 average, 6 touchdowns
Jaylen Waddle: 28 receptions, 591 yards, 21.1 average, 4 touchdowns

I believe that this will be one of the most significant position hires as we already have very good receivers in Moose and Noah. Seeing how he was able to improve the WRs at Bama in his first year makes me very excited about what he will be able to do at A&M. It's also worth noting how he had the same QB in 2018 and 2019 being Tua so there are similarities between the arm getting the ball to these players. What I have seen from Bama fans about him is how much the WRs struggled this year however watching Milore I think the issue was more on the QB than the receivers. The 2020 season is also something to look at as it was a shortened year but Smith also had just about the same yardage as two WRs put together. I really think he will take our WRs along with Kleins offense to places we couldn't have imagined under Fisher.

Patrick Dougherty Special Teams/Tight End Coach
Became Dukes Special Teams Coordinator along with tight end coach in 2022. I'm going to focus on TEs for this as his special teams acumen has already been reported on here and in the TAMU football coach bios if you care to read it https://12thman.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/patrick-dougherty/1759 this is the link
2021 Season
Jake Marwede: 16 receptions, 140 yards, 8.8 average
Nicky Dalmolin: 15 receptions, 121 yards, 8.1 average, 1 touchdown
2022 Season
Nicky Dalmolin: 21 receptions, 170 yards. 8.1 average, 4 touchdowns
Cole Finney: 4 receptions, 47 yards, 11.8 average
2023 Season
Nicky Dalmolin: 15 receptions, 147 yards, 9.8 average
Jeremiah Hasley: 5 receptions, 52 yards, 10.4 average, 1 touchdown

Duke does not utilize their tight ends a whole lot as shown by these stats however it is good to see how he was able to make Dalmolin a more productive TE with almost a 2 yards average gain by his 23 season and it will remain to be seen how important TEs will be under Klein's offense but I think where Dougherty is really earning his money is as the team's special teams coordinator which has been shown to be exceptional in the past few years.

Adam Cushing Offensive Line Coach
Was Dukes run game coordinator and offensive line coach under Elko for 2 years starting in 2022 before following him to A&M
2021 Season
27 opponent sacks, 181 yards lost, Rushing total: 2163 yards
2022 Season
17 opponent sacks, 107 yards lost, Rushing total: 2394 yards
2023 Season
17 opponent sacks, 88 yards lost, Rushing total: 2174 yards

This looks very promising for the Aggies as with Duke talent Cushing was able to drop the opponent sack total by 10 while also minimizing yards lost both years he was in control. He also had a minor increase in dukes run yardage through both years. I think our O-Line is going to benefit greatly from him being here and we will be able to see their true potential maybe even in the first year.

Sean Spencer Defensive Line coach
Became Florida's defensive line coach in January of 2022
2021 Season
Gervon Dexter Sr.: 50 Total Tackles, 20 solo, 30 assisted, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 2 fumble returns
Zach Carter: 31 Total Tackles, 15 solo, 16 assisted, 8 sacks, 2 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble
Antonio Valentino: 23 Total Tackles, 15 solo, 8 assisted, 1 sack,
Khris Bogle: 22 Total Tackles, 9 solo, 13 assisted, 1.5 sacks
2022 Season
Gervon Dexter Sr.: 55 Total Tackles, 22 solo, 33 assisted, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 1 interception
Princely Umanmielen: 39 Total Tackles, 16 solo, 23 assisted, 4.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles
Antwaun Powell-Ryland: 29 Total Tackles, 11 solo, 18 assisted, 3 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 3 forced fumbles
Desmond Watson: 25 Total Tackles, 8 solo, 17 assisted, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble return
2023 Season
Princely Umanmielen: 39 Total Tackles, 22 solo, 17 assisted, 7 sacks
Cam Jackson: 32 Total Tackles, 18 solo, 14 assisted, 2 pass deflections
T.J. Searcy: 26 Total Tackles, 9 solo, 17 assisted, 0.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble
Tyreak Sapp: 24 Total Tackles, 12 solo, 12 assisted, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 2 forced fumbles

This for me is a definite wait and see hire as there are some decent improvements in his first year at florida. Their 2023 defense was not good and we will have to wait and see if there was another issue at hand besides the position coaches.

Ishmael Aristide Defensive Backs Coach
Was the Duke cornerback coach in 22 and 23 after being with the aggies from 2019-2020 and Miami in 2021
2021 Season
Da'Quan Johnson: 61 Total Tackles, 29 solo, 32 assisted, 2 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble return
Nate Thompson: 40 Total Tackles, 22 solo, 18 assisted, 0.5 sacks, 2 pass deflections, 1 interception
Josh Blackwell: 35 Total Tackles, 23 solo, 12 assisted, 7 pass deflections
Leonard Johnson: 35 Total Tackles, 24 solo, 11 assisted, 5 pass deflections, 2 interceptions
2022 Season
Darius Joiner: 96 Total Tackles, 61 solo, 35 assisted, 4 sacks, 5 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble return
Brandon Johnson: 55 Total Tackles, 30 solo, 25 assisted, 5.5 sacks, 7 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble return
Chandler Rivers: 52 Total Tackles, 33 solo, 19 assisted, 0.5 sacks, 6 pass deflections, 1 interception
Datrone Young: 45 Total Tackles, 30 solo, 15 assisted, 7 pass deflections, 1 interception, 1 fumble return
2023 Season
Chandler Rivers: 58 Total Tackles, 39 solo, 19 assisted, 7 pass deflections, 1 interceptions,
Brandon Johnson: 56 Total Tackles, 2 sacks, 4 pass deflections
Al Blades Jr.: 47 Total Tackles, 28 solo, 19 assisted, 9 pass deflections
Joshua Pickett: 17 Total Tackles, 12 solo, 5 assisted, 1 pass deflection, 1 interception

Holy improvement batman. Aristide completely, in all categories improved the defensive backs at duke turning them into a very solid force on the field. While the 2023 season may not have produced their best season it is due to their LB seeming to carry alot of the load with the teams top tackler being a LB with 106 Tackles. Absolutely excited to see what he can do with our backs as we all saw how poorly they performed in the Texas bowl. If we get some solid back out of the portal and they can produce to the highest level, which I believe Aristide can get out of them, it may go from one of our worst positions to a very solid group very quickly.

Wesley McGriff Safeties Coach
McGriff has coached at several programs, most recently the Auburn Tigers for the 2023 season and before that the Louisville Cardinals in 2022 as the secondary coach for both schools at A&M he will be just the Safeties coach. For this analysis I will be putting teams stats as he was less of a position coach.
https://thecrunchzone.com/stat-comparison-louisville-football-2023-vs-2022/
This website shows all of Louisville's stats from 2022 to 2023 where you can see the change in secondary stats before and after McGriff left better than I could tell y'all. I think he will be a very good addition to a safety room loaded with talent and it will be interesting to see his development of the safeties. That said I believe his main strength is in recruiting where he has ties to the south east in states like Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi which will become very useful in the future and in this initial transfer portal cycle.

Contrast this to Fisher - the hiring strategy for him appeared to be:

1. Can he recruit? And/or
2. Head coaching experience (don't care if failed as head coach)?

Thank you for the effort… makes me feel a little better and hopeful. I still have my doubts how this staff stacks up against the top tier-one staffs and off-field analysts the SEC has to offer.

Thanks. Great job.

I think the coaching hires so far have been very encouraging. We're on a better path now.

When most people say, "It can't get any worse", it's usually with a bit of implied exaggeration.

But as far as our OL goes and Cushing taking over, the good news for us is that it literally can't get any worse.

So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we see an improvement there, and not a small one at that.

Wouldn't any former head coach thats been forced to take a coordinator or position role be a failed head coach by definition?
yes- but Jimbo prioritized hiring former head coaches over coaching skill at that position, it appears.

Holy cow, I'm not sure the zoo is worthy of this level of post. Most here can't even read past a 3rd grade level. They'll be here all week trying to decipher this one.

My takeaway is that we should get huge improvements at OL and DB in year 1. Those were the weak points on their respective side of the ball. So that's great.

LB and WR should get better, but it's unclear how much will be development vs bringing in talent...so maybe the big improvements will happen in years 2+.

Given portal losses at DL and an apparent step-down in coaching (measuring relative to Terry Price + ERob) we should expect a big step back at that group, although even the big step back there might still be to a merely "above average" line. And it's quite plausible to me that the installation of the Elko D plus the uptick at DB will be enough to compensate for this step back.

So yeah thanks OP! You, uh, got any more of that Kool-Aid (/Tyrone Biggums)?

How in the hell can you draw those conclusions?

The DL will improve with Spencer. We have solid talent there.
The LB group as well as the DB's will be upgraded.

How does all of than not add up to increased productivity out of our defense for you?

You spent a lot of time on that. I have never followed this stuff to any degree of detail, but I have to say I didn't realize we got so many coaches from Duke.

This is what AI thinks of Elko's staff:

Based on the detailed statistical data, the new Texas A&M football staff, comprising Colin Klein (Offensive Coordinator), Jay Bateman (DC/LB Coach), Trooper Taylor (Running Backs Coach), Holman Wiggins (Wide Receiver Coach), Patrick Dougherty (Special Teams/Tight End Coach), Adam Cushing (Offensive Line Coach), Sean Spencer (Defensive Line Coach), Ishmael Aristide (Defensive Backs Coach), and Wesley McGriff (Safeties Coach), have shown significant impact in their respective roles at previous institutions.

For instance, Klein's tenure as Offensive Coordinator at KState marked a notable improvement in offensive metrics such as points per game and total yards. This suggests a potential boost for A&M's offense, emphasizing a more dynamic and high-scoring approach. Bateman's influence at Florida, particularly on linebackers, demonstrated an increase in versatility and playmaking ability, hinting at a more aggressive and opportunistic defense under his guidance.

Taylor's track record with running backs at Duke showed a balanced and effective ground game, which could translate into a more robust rushing attack for A&M. Wiggins, with his experience in developing NFL-caliber talent at Alabama, could elevate the skill set of A&M's receivers, potentially leading to a more explosive and versatile passing game.

Dougherty's focus on tight ends and special teams could bring a new dimension to A&M's offensive strategy and overall team efficiency. Cushing's impact on offensive line performance at Duke, evidenced by reduced sacks and increased rushing yards, indicates a potential strengthening of A&M's offensive front, crucial for both pass protection and run blocking.

Spencer's tenure at Florida showed progress in defensive line metrics, suggesting a possible enhancement in A&M's defensive line effectiveness. Aristide's impressive improvement of Duke's defensive backs could lead to a significant upgrade in A&M's secondary performance. McGriff's experience and recruiting prowess might not only bolster the safeties' play but also aid in talent acquisition.

In summary, the new staff's combined experience and proven track records suggest a promising future for Texas A&M's football program. Their expertise spans across all critical areas of the game, indicating potential improvements in both offense and defense. The blend of tactical acumen and player development skills among the coaches could lead to a more competitive and well-rounded team, poised for success in the highly competitive landscape of college football.

Not too shabby.
