So trying to read up on this clock running when players go out of bounds and all I'm finding is it's about time left in half. So why change the rule, if a player runs out of bounds, clock should stop but many instances last night it did not and I feel this affected much of the time A&M had left to potentially win the game. So can anyone help understand what the clock rule is now and going forward? Thanks.

I could be wrong, but it just seems like it exists to "speed up the game".

You know what would really speed up the game? Limit the number / length of TV timeouts!

They want games to go faster but are unwilling to compromise commercials, so gotta change the game. Crazy how folks are letting greedy TV companies change the actual rules of college football. It all sucks.

I was wondering the same thing. Now when you need a late drive, you are screwed because there is no way to stop the clock except throw an incomplete pass, which doesn't help you much. Heck, someone can run out of bounds and go up in the stands while the clock runs out. Why do the ref's even do the overhead time out signal when comeone goes out of bounds when the clock won't stop anyway?

The big change this year in the NCAA was that the clock does not stop to 'set the chains'/'set the ball' after a first down is made unless it is within the last 2 minutes of a half.

The other rule basically says that going out of bounds doesn't stop the game clock unless within the last 2 minutes of a half (and the player maintains forward momentum going out of bounds).

Like poster above said, both were done to speed up the game but it just seems like we have added more commercials and kept the game's length of time to complete pretty much the same

It's almost like they traded football time for commercial time to keep the games the same length…
