Elko developed well at Duke so there's hope that he can develop quickly in the SEC as well.

There was a thread about eggs a few years back where we roasted a Texas poster for a similar comment.

This class will be poorly ranked while Texas' class is great. That's just the way it is. Winning fixes everything, and I think we'll win under the new staff.

yeah, pretty much. Signing day used to be a day I took off work for. Fast moving, alot of flip action, etc. Since they split the signing days it's a rather laid back and boring function. They actually have a window, which starts today. 3 days iirc. It's just not as fun anymore

Our top few guys haven't signed yet (according to 247). Don't know whether it is typical for the top recruits to hold off on signing. Texas has one 5 star who hasn't signed yet as well.

Damn this whole transistition from Jimbo has been a hot mess with Erob, struggles with assistant positions , portals and now our signing class decimated. We're going to have to be patient with Coach Elko because this may be a long bumpy ride back.

No troll, with the recruits delaying signing to February we're signing basically half of a class at the moment. No real way to spin it. I do like the players we've gotten especially Funk and Jackson.

Recruiting was going to be mediocre this year
Hopefully we can hold on to some players that are in the portal and find some guys in the portal that want to come here and can contribute immediately
Hopefully Elko and the NIL guys can get it done

Bussey did have a TAMU logo sticker on the back of his helmet during the state championship game. Hopefully he stays with the good guys.

sorry, but getting 10 studs when you need 20 studs is NOT a great recruiting day.

there is a reason that the Ags are ranked #20 in the current NLI ratings today.

This is the crux of everything for us, and where we failed mightily under Jimbo (with some variation across position groups). We've got all the other pieces in place.

In fact, with our recruiting capabilities, I'd dare say that Elko can do even a B- job of developing talent and we'll still end up with all the on-field pieces we need for elitehood. EDIT: those same recruiting capabilities make me very confident that our light haul this cycle is a purely transient effect, with a top 10 class inbound in 2024-5.

Ahfua signed. He had a ton of offers.

In an era when most recruits are signing on early signing day, you're not going to land a top 10 class the month after you make a coaching change. It's one of the costs of making a coaching change, along with the heavy portal attrition. Hopefully this one was worth it. (I'm optimistic)

If you factor in transfers, wouldn't this drag the average rating down?

That was with our 2nd or 3rd team QB and a dysfunctional offensive coaching and horrible OL coach.

We are going to be fine, and much improved. The Elko era is starting.

As of right now, this class could end up anywhere from good quality but short on numbers to a disaster.

To end up on the good end we need to close on some targets this afternoon and hold on to Bussy and McKinley.

We absolutely have to get more players from the portal to compensate for our high school recruiting this year.

Those numbers assumed the 5 stars were going to sign....they've moved their decisions out and none are guarantees anymore (more of A&M's new staff trying to make up ground and get back into the conversations since they all had relationships with prior coaching staff).

Miami won by 17.

Actually Miami was ahead by 5 when the 4th quarter started and won by 15 with 2 late scores. So yes all 5 losses were winnable in the 4th quarter.

Based on what another site is reporting we're very likely to lose the DL from Longview , Evans, and the LB T. Smith to tu and the RB from Florida to Ga Tech. If that happens and we lose Bussey and McKinley I think it would be safe to assess this class as somewhere between a huge disappointment and an outright disaster.

You can say what you want to about Jimbo's coaching but he could recruit and he was especially good at closing.

You're not factoring in what happens when a coaching change occurs. This is an uneven playing field. Jimbo recruited the majority of these players for 2+ years. Elko recruited them for approximately 18 days. All things considered, he and his staff have done an admirable job and I believe they will continue to do so with NCAA-level portal fill-ins to even out the numbers. As soon as Jimbo was cut loose, the recruiting standards that we have grown accustomed to, went with him. Not a single coach could have held the entire thing together, so saying this is a disaster is an abject over exaggeration. I believe Elko will be able to display his recruiting chops. I also think he will be more selective of players who fit the scheme and culture he wants to develop. We will see how Elko progresses over the year with the '25 class. That'll be a solid starting point to begin judgement. That, and how the '24 season plays out...
