I think we'll see a version of this eventually (though the G5 will NOT be included. But yes, you'll have somewhere around 48 power schools make the Final Cut and be in an independent collegiate football conference while all the other sports stay in regional conferences like the SEC or ACC

This new division will be NFL Lite with one TV contract, equal TV revenue, paid players, a salary (and salary cap) and even a draft from high school, and of course a playoff

It will look very little like CFB as we know it but it will create a (mostly) peaceful environment for the top brands to compete on a (mostly) even playing field

When it does happen, why have it affiliated with the schools at that point? Just make it a minor league of the NFL.

I've been saying this exact thing for years! Football should break away from the other sports and let all the other sports should go back to the old school regional conferences. The SWC is a great conference for everything else but football.

Would you prefer to be in that "power" league, or just continue to maintain the illusion that we have college students.

Me personally, I don't even watch the NFL. And I can't imagine watching a "lite" version of it, even if it is somehow affiliated with my school (although I sure can't figure out why it would be).

More likely, in my view, after a few years of NIL creating greater differences between the haves and have nots, I can see the major conferences jettisoning the weaker schools to hog more money for themselves. It's not clear if we would be a "have" or a "have not" in that scenario. If the SEC schools were to vote on which Texas based team to jettison, there's about a 99% chance that it would be A&M. Heck, the stooges in our Admin would probably make it unanimous.

You know what else is flawed? Chip Kelly as a head coach.

It's crazy how Chip Kelly is the only Power 5 head coach remaining with his current team from the 2017-2018 coaching carousel. Jimbo Fisher and Jonathan Smith were the only other head coaches with their current teams before the season began. Then, Texas A&M fired Jimbo Fisher with 2 regular season games remaining, and Jonathan Smith left Oregon State, his alma matar, for Michigan State after the regular season ended.

that isn't entirely unlike the model the CFA wanted to institute. But as TV contracts became more lucrative conferences abandoned the CFA as well in favor of their own deals. In a time when conferences get such TV revenue it is difficult to imagine them being willing to give up control of that to a single governing entity.

We would definitely be in the "have" side because we have a big fanbase and significant resources. Our on-field performance may not put us on the "have" side, but we would still make the cut. I don't think it ever comes down to choosing between Texas and A&M. If it happened, I agree with your assessment, but it won't happen.

Without school affiliation 90% of the fan base disappears. May bring in some fans from other places, but not nearly enough. Wouldn't work.

It will end up like baseball - a minor league farm system and then the college system for those that either get drafted low or have other reasons not to go straight to the pros.

Honestly, at this point I'd prefer this type of system so that NCAA football doesn't die completely.

But with NIL, the genie isn't going back into the bottle. NCAAF will never be the same as it was, ever.

Coaches struggling are clamoring for revenue sharing with the athletes. Makes you popular with the players.

There is revenue sharing. It's called scholarships. They are saying more revenue sharing.

There are two levels to what he's discussing.
There's the bigger picture of having schools leave conferences for football only, forming the 64-team Power conference and 64-team G5 conference. I would love this, but problematically, there isn't a conference commissioner who is going to give up power to help form this.

There is the individual player level that I'm assuming he wants a commissioner to control player movement and NIL deals. That isn't going to happen unless college players collectively bargain for it or there is some national law passed that regulates it, and that ain't happening.

I would happily enjoy a separate Power conference for football only, and keep all other sports regional. I'm guessing student-athletes, their parents, and academic advisors would be all for that, but again, would current conference commissioners aid in getting this going, highly unlikely.

Since the courts just ruled that players can get paid, it's hard to imagine they would allow anyone which includes congress to place a cap on what a player can make.

Sharing all the TV money with all teams, I have a hard time seeing the blue bloods sharing, they want more now.

This. And the fact that one TV contract would be an easy anti-trust case (issue was decided by the Supreme Court in 1984).
