A cautionary tale of the grass isn't always greener. Doesn't look like we missed out on a whole lot of production.

Notice how many players SEC teams swooped in and signed in the largest portal class in the SEC? Only 4 players, of which 1 was a kicker. The other 3 were suspended by their SEC teams, of which 2 never played a down. What does that reveal?

They weren't impressed with the leftovers either... Good point.

I wonder if these transfer guys tell any of their old teammates that portal jumping isn't all it is cracked up to be. What type of research do these young men do to formulate their decision? How many cases are where the coach kind of suggest to look elsewhere? It would be interesting to know.

Great post, seems like king and jones was really the only two that did anything

Excellent info redJalapeno-87! We appreciate the research!
Yeah, it doesn't look like we missed out on much. I'm happy for Haynes King, that he was able to improve his game and contribute for GT.

Might not be a bad idea to pay some of these guys to come back and give their testimony. Real life examples of how the grass isn't always greener.

Ever think they might still be happy they transferred because they didn't want to play for Jimbo?

Those are some pretty good numbers from King. Good for him. I always thought we under-utilized LJ, glad to see him play well.

The most surprising to me is Ish Harris. I really thought he'd make it somewhere as a LB/Safety. I see he's not even on the UH roster. Really surprising. Kid could have had playing time and an Aggie degree and now I assume he'll head back to DFW working a shift job. Wild.

Jimbo picked the wrong kicker.

This forum was so excited for many of these recruits. Overall, so far, very little production. Although looks like Haynes King made the right decision.

I know coming out of HS I thought Chris Marshall would eventually be a stud.

I heard this week from an Ole Miss sportscaster that Chris Marshall contacted Kiffin about returning next year. He thought it was too big of a risk for a team focusing on the 12 team playoff next year, and does not believe Kiffin will allow that to happen. Waaay to risky.

King had 15 INT, but also showed he can lead a team and become a dual-threat QB that scores the ball when he is healthy and has a good coach.

Andre white's lack of contribution is the most surprising to me.

We knew even before the season started that the portals out vs. the portals/freshmen in would be a net gain for the Ags. I'm not so sure about this current class. So far we are losing a lot more than it appears we are bringing in.
Time will tell.

He's the leading JUCO receiver in the nation, I believe.

The kicker is the only one that doesn't suck out of that entire lot. Even King's numbers are pedestrian.

Very interesting analysis. Thanks for posting.
Now let me ask you this as I don't keep up with the portal transfers like many on this board do.
Overall have the transfers in been that productive and seen much playing time here?

Jimb_ never really focused on the Portal, as he likely considers it like social media (haha). He ignores it. However last year there were 15 incoming portalees, some of which were non-scholarship. Walker (WR) was a contributor as well as Henderson (QB). Those players are solid team contributors. DeBerry (DB) was a 1 year contributor but had to play out of position. He played CB but was really a nickle/safety. Another CB, Grimes is a good player but did not play due to injury. Another CB, McCall has some potential. Elko needs to improve our portal game.

Chris Marshall, Soph at Kilgore Junior College, played in 6 games with 21 receptions for 449 yards and 5 TD.

That Jimbo's staff was not vetting players but just scooping up star ratings.

Seems like they would have remembered how that went for tu for a decade.

Calzada portaled out 2 years ago (2022). I may post a "Where Are They Now" with stats on that class soon.

For some the grass was greener as they got more cash than staying and some made money and didn't even play. That's the issue underway. There are a few in the txfr portal again.

Interesting that of the 4 players suspended last year (3 indefinitely) who left the team, only PJ Williams even played a down this season.

Lesson of the Day:
'Tis better to leave people wondering if you are any good while buried in the depth chart where you are…
than to transfer portal out and prove to everyone you are no good!

yes, this is the key takeaway

Jimbo's alleged "top 10" classes in 2020 and 2021 were very over-rated

and it may mean that in general Texas high school recruits are typically over-rated
