I am asking this just to gauge how another fan base would think about Penn State's coach.

Umm, he's done considerably better than Jimbo in almost every regard. I work with a gal who is a PSU alum and she wants Franklin gone as well. Interesting to see the different perspectives. I'd give anything to have our coach perform as well as Franklin...she wants him gone.

He can't seem to get over the Michigan and Ohio State hump.

Sounds eerily similar to our previous coach.

Why is it that all these rooks keep bringing up dumb a__ coach suggestions.

I'm sure their problem with Franklin is always being in Ohio State's and Michigan's shadows. 1 conference title in 9 years of coaching. I get that we'd be okay with that in our position, but they're obviously not.

James Franklin is running out of momentum at Penn St. That's exactly what happened to Jimbo at FSU before we hired him. So no we do not want to hire another big name head coach looking to restart somewhere else.

He's essentially Jimbo with qan easier schedule - have you seen his offenses at penn st? they are as brutal or even more brutal to watch than jimbo's.

Franklin would be a consisten 7-8 win coach here and never win us anything of significance.

He's averaging roughly 8-4 at Penn State. It is a little familiar, to be honest.

It's not our job to bail out Penn State. Yeah, I know he lives in a tough neighborhood, but did forget what the SEC was like?

And he gets to fill in the rest of his schedule with the Indianas, Rutgers, & Maryland's instead of Ole Miss, Auburn & Florida. That's why he still gets to 10-2 instead of 8-4.
He's a good coach, but not good enough.

1-13 vs AP Top 5

It's not a high bar, but he'd be the best coach we've had since early RC. He hasn't gotten over the hump with Michigan and Ohio State, but there are some positives.

-Penn State is likely on its way to its 5th 11-win season in the last 9 years. TAMU has had one of those in the last 25 years.
-He never missed a bowl at Vanderbilt and won 9 games there in each of his last 3 seasons. As the son of a VU alumnus and someone who has followed them for 4 decades, I assure you that alone verifies he's either a great coach or sold his soul to the devil.

He wouldn't be my first or second choice, but I wouldn't be disappointed with him. He's a relentless recruiter, is extremely organized both running a program and in game management, and would come in feeling like he still very much has something to prove. I'm not sure if it's a pro or con, but he had a way of irritating other SEC fans and coaches at VU that I always found entertaining.

Regardless, it's highly unlikely he's coming to TAMU this year. I expect he'll either suddenly be beloved as soon as next year when Michigan melts down and he sneaks past Ohio State, or he'll move on within a couple years and be successful at a middle tier Power 5 program.

So much so Franklin just fired his OC.

Not only can Franklin not get over the Michigan Ohio St jump. He makes idiotic coaching decisions with shocking regularity.

He puts up better records I think in the B1G than we have mostly and PSU ranked higher but I don't think he could do much better in the SEC than our last two.
