I have a conspiracy theory about Scott Woodward, and Jimbo's agent Jimmy Sexton, working together to help their respective best interests, but Woodward had other alternative motives. Basically, to keep A&M's hands tied with a coach that wasn't gettting it done in Jimbo Fisher.

Scott Woodward, LSUs current AD and former Texas A&M AD, was instrumental in getting Jimbo hired, and a 75 million dollar check in hand. Also, Scott Woodward and Jimbo Fisher are personal friends from their time at LSU. Now, lets assume Woodward led the charge on getting Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M, in good faith Jimbo would somehow improve his already downward trajectory as a HC at FSU. Woodward would of been using personal relationships, and therfore bias, to get his buddy Jimbo, the biggest contract in CFB history. Thats all well and good, but Jimbo's contract extension is where the conspiracy comes into play.

In the course of looking for a new HC at LSU, Woodward understood A&M leadership better than anyone as former AD, and and knew Texas A&M wasn't willing to let anyone steal Jimbo, the keystone in their 10 year guaranteed contract experiment. This would appear to make A&M look less powerful than another SEC divisional schools, namely LSU. So he makes a call to Jimmy Sexton knowing A&M would pay astronomically to keep Jimbo, who was already underperforming. At the same time, knowing the Jimbo hire was less than likely to turn out how A&M wanted, there was even more incentive to collude with Jimmy Sexton to get A&M to dig itself in a financial hole it couldn't get itself out of. Woodward never seriously wanted Jimbo at LSU, but he did want Texas A&M to be stuck with a HC we didn't want, for longer than we wanted, something that only helps LSU in recruiting and the SEC West race overall. So he calls Jimmy and helps him to get his client a massive and unearned extension by telling him he would go public with the notion LSU was seriously considering trying to hire Jimbo as their next HC, with no actual intention of doing so.

It didn't work in the end, other than causing A&M to pay the biggest payout in CFB history.

I 100% believe there was communication between the two. But agents do this every time for leverage. It's the Aggies fault for going crazy. No sane person would offer that contract before actually winning something here. We need to stop being desperate.

They can make me forget all this with the right hire and winning

Once the extension is completed, Jimbo starts to underperform in order to get fired with a guaranteed contract and hire on with LSU who then, under Jimbo, wins a NC within 3 years. There finished it for you.

If any collusion was real, it would always be hard to prove.

However, contracts could be written to pull back money from ADs, or to limit their moves. AD contract should have limited our AD from leaving to a school that we compete against for the next 5-10 years. Easy to solve.

Football coach search is not a one-man job. Others should have said something. Just like with Jackie, when you set a high bar with a coach's contract, everyone knows what they are doing and knows what the impacts are.

This would make more sense if Sumlin hadn't also been the beneficiary of a stupid extension, which Franchione also got after two years.

It's just the way it is here.

Lol Jimbo isn't doing **** other than sipping 1000$ whiskey around the fire with Scott during deer season at his gigantic ranch.

One problem with your theory OP. If we were truly in a "financial hole" that would mean we'd have to keep Jimbo for all/most of the contract because we didn't have the resources to dig ourselves out.

But we just wrote a $76 million check proving we weren't in a financial hole.

Anybody saying A&M is crazy to write that check is just jealous their University can't do it. A&M means business and proved it today. We will win.

We should avoid anyone with Sexton ties; way too much influence in the SEC.

Thats why im saying ultimately it didn't work. We have less money, but A&M fired Jimbo before Woodward anticipated. So I guess we win, but we also lost a BOATLOAD of money.

So you're on board with my proxy war theory? We are in the SEC boys, time to get Ranger 65 bqck in the fold!

So…Jimmy Sexton did exactly what his job is?!?!

Great for him. It's why almost every coach hires him.

But he has way too much at stake to be in bed with Woodward over one shady deal. He'll probably make money on the next 3 coaching hires here, along with many more.

He played his part, doing what he's supposed to do for his client.

He was just a beneficiary of what Woodward wanted to do, and helped get the rumor out there about Lsu wanting Fisher. I guarantee it

OP gets it. Woodward is born & raised in Baton Rouge and bleeds purple & gold. If you think he was acting in A&M's best interest as our AD, you sadly have a lot to learn about mores and ethical fiber on the far side of the Sabine.

One of the very, very few things Louisiana has left to be proud of is the corndog program, and they'd turn their state inside out to keep it relevant for another 5 years. Would they really rend asunder business and industry ethics to keep a surefire long-term challenger (us) down? Lassiez les bon temps roulez!

There's not much we can do now besides not fall for the same con again, hope our leadership has some good innovation in store for our new regime, and never, ever forget how deeply terrified corndog is of our potential.
