You forget the 9 year season that gets the coach an extension and the once in 20 year 11 win season that gives us the delusion that we can actually compete for championships.

If this is the case, fine. We shouldn't waste 9 mil a year to do it when 2.5 would probably work.

Sadly, I think the OP is correct. Just look at the last 100 years for evidence.

I might actually remember that thread. Slocum had a string of assistants that left and went on to be successful. Or at least adequate enough to beat the ags

Well we have an all time 60% win percentage which is fewer than 8 wins a year (out of 12). So 7-8 win seasons is to be expected.

I would pay $2 per year to coach the team and I could win 4 or 5 games, maybe.6… after I got all my guys a solid 7-5 would be doable. After that I would demand to be paid back my $10 dollars.

For the life of me I'll never understand why we don't go for incentive based contracts. I want a coach who is willing to bet on himself!
Guaranteed $1M/yr for 5yrs (automatically resetting with each 6 win season)
+$10M for a 10+ wins (bowl included)
+$20M for a conference championship
+$30M for a national championship

A coach who put up LSU level results could net Jimbo level pay. A coach who put up Jimbo level results wouldn't become a buy out problem.

Do any other programs have this sort of performance based contracts to keep these clowns honest? I thought the leverage was on the coaching side to dictate the structure of the agreement more so than the school. For perceived "hot" commodity coaches.. In other word, frauds.
