Some more good takes from Josh Pate.

tldr:

-Alabama couldn't run the ball, but Milroe found a way to beat us through the air.
-Alabama's defense is nasty and this was a dogfight.
-Jimbo's game management was horrendous (go to 3:44 for his takes on this, its brutal)
-A&M squandered its opportunity. Josh believes this is a championship window for A&M, and we've completely wasted it this year.
-Jimbo needs to make more coaching changes, specifically regarding game management. Last year's changes were a start but not enough.
-We had the opportunity to knock down Bama and we blew it. He believes Alabama will not lose again in the regular season (QB finding himself, offense learning their strengths, schedule isn't too bad moving forward).

Sweet... The best solution for our struggles is to take more coaching responsibilities away from our over-paid head coach. Just can him if less is more.

Imma give you a little bit of worldly advice:

This is what we do, doesn't matter who the opponent is. We are a cursed program and we will forever be scared ****less of being that program that finally says "F it, we are going to curb stomp everybody we play".

It's an Aggie tradition, just like Whooping, 12th Man, etc.

HOOOOO WAAAAAA, Someone finally gets it. Since Bryant came to A&M we've only had two coaches capable of winning a national championship, Bryant himself and Sherrill. That is pitifully sad! Fifty nine years of mediocre to down right losing programs.

Pate has to fill air time....all editorial opinionators do. He said he struggled beforehand to pick A&M...just proves we don't know how to take the stage.

He did remind listeners too, that A&M is playing with a back-up QB.

Don't get me wrong, Max is good, but he is still a back-up QB.

JFF would have lost Saturday with our crappy 2nd half O-line.

Actually, to be fair, JFF may have been able to build up a bigger lead in the first half when we actually moved the ball. But in the 2nd half he would have been mauled just as bad as Max was. It's hard to play QB when 2 of your linemen keep getting run over.

I watched this video. We won the turnover margin 2 to 1 and had just 4 penalties for 19 yards, compared to Alabama's 14 penalties for 99 yards. Unfortunately, we scored 0 points off of 2 Alabama's turnovers, and Alabama scored a touchdown off Max Johnson's interception, which happened after we got an interception. Also, we squandered 2 scoring opportunities and gave up a safety:

1. A failed 4th and 1 at the Alabama 19 on our first possession that would have given us a 3-0 lead and a 20-10 halftime lead. Jimbo should have elected to kick a field goal, knowing that every scoring opportunity is crucial, and Alabama was receiving the 2nd half kickoff.

2. A blocked 41-yard field goal attempt with 11:09 left

3. A safety surrendered because our o-line couldn't protect Max Johnson made it a two-possession game with 5:55 left.

If we had kicked a field goal on our first possession, made that blocked field goal attempt, and not allowed a safety, we would have only needed a field goal to win beat Alabama 26-24.

I agree with Josh Pate's prediction that Alabama will not lose again in the regular season, but I think Georgia will beat Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.

Add that with two rare, crucial dropped passes by solid WRs and we get what we had yesterday.

disagree w/ this

championship window went out w/ connors ankle

max is a very capable backup, but he has played a lot and has not shown himself to be a championship level QB (at this time)

The championship dreams were wasted when we let an average Miami team put 48 on us.

We were never running the table to 12-1, which is what would be required to make the playoff.

We lost to an average team 48-33 with him 100% healthy. That loss will look horrible on our resume in 6 weeks.

I saw two teams head into the locker rooms at halftime. One team talked about what the other team was doing successfully, made adjustments, and successfully countered what the other team was doing. The other team came out of the locker room and played the same for the rest of the game to include running between the tackles when it didn't work in the first half. Definition of insanity.

Five star players, two star coaches.

I don't believe this is true. Bellard was capable. Slocum was capable. Both came within a win or two of possibly getting it done. Hell, Sumlin had 2 years with Johnny that, had the ball bounced right, he could have played for a title. If you're going to dog those guys, you can't rate Sherrill that high either for reasons I've discussed before. He never won a championship as a HC and his three straight 11-1 records at Pitt were good, but Slocum had similar years here while Sherrill never did.

A few observations.

On the penalties, timing matters. A holding penalty on a TD is much more destructive than a third false start on a series that you're already going to be punting away anyway. So while Alabama had more, not sure any were as costly. Someone with a better memory will probably prove me wrong.

Although we lost 2 of 3 to Alabama lately, these aren't the drummings of years past. Remember that Kyle Allen outting? It kind of makes it worse though, because you know it was there to be had. We weren't totally outclassed.

Unfortunately, though we were out coached. Again. Saban gonna Saban, but still. I was stoked when we got Jimbo and I've been a believer. Still mostly am. Hiring Petrino gave me more hope again. But when he keeps Adazio around it gives me doubts. There's no reason that our stable of goons shouldn't be able to go out and make 1-2 yards happen. It reeks of mismanagement.

Speaking of mismanagement, what is it with Jimbo and clocks? I'm FAR from a competent football mind and even I find myself asking, WTF? This is maybe the worst of it because I'm not sure it's ever fixable.

All of the talent in the world (save a few lockdown corners) and high stakes games are still going to come down to the wire. A few moves makes the difference and we seem to make wrong ones way too often when it really counts.

I was sad Saturday night in the way home. Same now. This year should've been more fun.
