Yes, and that was one of three games lost by stupid in game decisions by Wilson: BYU, Tech and UH. If he hadn't screwed those up, he would have started 9-2 and might have stayed off the hot seat for a while. But this is a vague thread.

I had to buy scalper ticket for the Texas game because the third deck wasn't finished. Met a cute girl going with friends to Rice game!!

It was played in Rice's stadium. I was there. It was a heartbreaker.

My senior year. We loaded up a VW bus and drove to State College for the game. A fine time was had by all. Penn State folks we ran into were really decent - both before and after the game.

Was Dana X Bible still our coach then or did he go to t.u. by then?

All I recall is Curtis Dickey in State College, PA.

I think we have had several like him. Most recently Achane. Those kind of friekish athletes don't stick out as much anymore tho because the training and coaching have caught up meaning there are so many beasts now all over the field. Still, that kind of speed can't be taught

Achane is amazing, but Curtis was faster at 6-2 220 and had that effortless long sprinter stride.

Rare breed.

My maternal grandfather was Class of '25. In 1979, he was still alive and still had season tickets.

I can't imagine the futility he witnessed over the years, and the poor man died five months before we hired Jackie Sherrill.

Don't remember the year exactly. But that BYU game had Giff Nielsen as QB and we played the game at Rice Stadium. I believe that was part of the construction adding the 3rd deck.
