Question is posted for our resident gurus that know more than me.

You can answer the OP with what you think they should do.. or you can opine on what you think they will do.

I think it's pretty obvious that if max beats Arkansas and Alabama it's his job regardless on how Jimbo/Petrino tailor the offense to him.

I'm curious on if they redshirt weigman if max is playing well and takes over

Didn't Max come in and lead the offense to 2 TDs in 2 possessions? And Conner hadn't gotten the ball in the endzone in almost 2 full quarters? I'd say the offense is tailored to Max just fine.

They will say nothing changes because they are coaches but there have to be a few throws that Conner makes that maybe Max cannot.

I like Max's play action fakes and think adding some bootlegs would help.

We are lucky to have him!

i think the offense will stay abkut 85-90% the same. the diffference will be the specific plays and route tree combos that max throws well to.

from my observation that means more throws to the outside and deep balls. connor has a better arm so he has the ability to throw more balls over the middle in tight windows.

That was one of the best playcalls of the game. The Johnson to Johnson connection on the PA fake, roll out to the left.

I don't think we change the offense at all. They have similar styles of play. My only suggestion would to try and not put Max in any position where he may get hurt because my guess is the next man up will be a rocky ride.

Max has just as strong of an arm as Conner if not stronger. Conner moves a little better in the pocket and is a little quicker but both are capable runners. Biggest difference I see is that Conner has a quicker release and can throw accurately from multiple arm angles. The OL and RBs have to play better for Max to have success. If they do the offense will be fine. Also please stop the stupid pre snap penalties anytime you get in the red zone. It's always the same guys doing it.

I think it was pretty obvious yesterday when Max came in we kept more protection and had fewer routes. Connor seems to process information quicker and hit quick open receivers when it's there. This allows for more options on each play. Max has a very strong arm and is a capable runner but doesn't look as adept at getting the ball out quickly.

They'll keep Max in the pocket & make sure he avoids contact when has to run. I'm pretty sure you aren't going see very many QB keepers.

They've got to get Max a crash course in pre-snap reads and managing pressure.

I think they will try and move Max around with some boots, sprint-outs, things like that. Max is an athletic guy and seems to prefer not being in the pocket.

Max is a very capable QB, but we will suffer from not having Conner's pocket presence and ability to assimilate pressure outlets quickly.

I think Petrino will attempt to scheme around this. You might see some traditional screen passing to the backs in an attempt to mitigate the defenses pressure packages.

I don't know, that dime to #1 in the end zone was a thing of beauty.

I understand your point but Conner will start when he's healthy.

In my opinion, the worst thing Petrino and Jimbo can do is try to limit the play book and dumb it down for Max. Arkansas' secondary is vulnerable, and they will bring pressure. Being an 11:00 game, if we come out flat like we did against Auburn combined with a conservative/simplified game plan on offense then we could get run off the field early.

I'd like to see us come out slinging it and put the pressure on their DBs. Max is plenty capable. Let him throw it.

Why would they "dumb down" the play book? Both QBs were on campus doe the spring. And Max Johnson is a talented backup that could be starting at some other D1 schools. It's not like he's a freshman about to start his first SEC game and only got on campus in June.

You're gonna see some deep shots. Max thries a great deep ball and as we saw on the td to Stewart it can be deadly

If the oline can give him enough time I think we'll have a lot of big plays

Don't think enough changes that the average person would notice. Maybe tailor the game plan towards a handful of plays he likes or excels at.

On the positive side, how long has it been since we have had 2 competent qb's ready to play? Credit the coaching staff for that .

Max is not as good as Weigman. Release is slower. Not quite as accurate . Feet not as good altho not bad and about 3" and 30 lbs more of him . I'm not worried about offense.

Both are leaders.

Whatever they do, don't go conservative with him like they did last season. He can sling the ball. Let him loose.

They are going to come after him hard because our O line has shown that they struggle picking up the blitz and Max is somewhat less than elusive while in the pocket.

We are going to have to have quick release stuff in the game plan to counter the rush and back them off or he'll never have the chance to throw deep.

Starting the second half the sideline reporter said the offense would be dialed back a bit. Frankly, I think it needed it regardless of who the QB was and believe it's one reason we started moving the ball. We looked way to confused with receivers jumping here and there to get lined up right at the start of that game. They definitely should also keep backs in for more protection regardless of who the QB is. Our receivers are good enough to get open without all the empty sets anyway. And it's clear that everyone's answer to our offense is pressure.

Dumb down maybe poor choice of words. I meant limit and be conservative.

Deception, cross patterns, cross power blocking, roll out passes plus some bootlegs. We have the talent.

Now the real problem is our DBs Some just do not get the message that losing the receiver by turning their backs on the receiver is a TD for the bad guys. One of our DBs who is generally picked on deep needs some skill coaching. This guy cost us the Miami game and the coaches need to wood shed this guy and get to him that his coverage is poor plus tackling. These are game changers. One guy.
