He still says he didn't do it. No real reason came out of the trial, other than the son's behavior and relationship with his parents was heading in the wrong direction.

There have been 2 mistrials before this one. According to the article, there may have been new evidence in this trial that was not used in the previous ones. That's suspicious. If the prosecution was withholding evidence, we will probably get to do this all over again next year.

I must have been living under a rock in 2016. I remember Antonio Shorter/Armstrong fondly from the 1990s, but I don't remember hearing about his murder

Such a shame is right. The story was confusing and I never could (from what I was able to learn) decide whether to think the son did it or not. That poor family doesn't get any relief either way it goes, and no matter the truth.

Antonio was clearly such a great human, we all are worse off for him being gone.

Apparently the police had placed a name tag label on the son's shirt. So in the first 2 trials they didn't have any blood evidence. Someone thought to take the label off and lo and behold his dad's blood (2 drops) had been under there all along.

Sumlin had lost control of me at that point
