2023 Roster released...

  • No big surprises other than Jalen Preston not listed (unknown why)
  • 15 LBs on the rosters doesn't scream depth issues (yes, I know it depends who those 15 are and can play), but I do not recall when did Danny Lockhart, Jr. transfer to A&M (was that in a past season or is that an error?)

12 of the linebackers are DBs standing on each others' shoulders in trenchcoats

I can't find the thread where it was mentioned but I want to say it happened shortly after his baby brother Jordan committed to us.

I will add, not all heights of course are right but also some weights are off as well.

I know Samu isn't still 380. He's lost a bunch, think he is down around 330 or less

Oh, sorry, forgot to say but I am pretty sure Preston is gone to transfer and try to get some playing time. I wish him all the luck

Seriously? I thought he was about 390 when he committed half a year ago. That's like 2 pounds a week. Talk about putting in the work.

We have 7 scholarship LBers. The rest are walkons and really shouldn't be counted.

The thing about the LBers is, it isn't depth. It's concern over top end talent. We have a 3.5 deep for a 2 man base. That's more than some other positions. From what it sounds like, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th look like decent options for depth. The problem is, we just don't know what we have at the top. Can we find 3 (rotate one) that play at above average sec levels. Or even average, behind a potentially elite DL.

Exactly. Every other position on the field (other than kicker) has multiple top-100-type guys at the position that either become starters, or get passed up by guys that can beat out a top-100 guy. Our second and third strings are as talented as any other position, but it really hurts to see Perkins balling out at LSU with the question marks we have at top.

None of that means that a couple of guys can't beast out and have a great year at the position, but it is definitely an anomaly still on the roster.

Who has the better porn stache - Max Wright or Cody Polk. I might give the nod to Cody Polk based on name alone.

Also, Max Wright looks like a dad that is planning a trip to take his 3rd- and 5th-grade children in a cross-country road trip to the Grand Canyon, but one of them pulled a prank on him and inflated his throat to twice its normal size.

Perkins balling out? The game I saw last year an underwhelming A&M OL made his presence on the field negligible.

That must have been the only game that you watched him play last year. He is pre season first team all SEC for a reason

I guess you missed the part where Perkins is a Preseason All American. Add him and Hill and our LB core would be well set. Instead we are in the boat of hoping our LB's are woefully underrated as some have said. Outside of Cooper, I doubt many or any of the rest would be starters on other teams in the SEC. Most our guys would not even be on the Georgia squad.

He plays for LSU so you clearly have no clue what you're talkng about. Thanks for proving my point.

I love that we say the preseason accolades don't matter because none of our guys are on them, then you proceed to trip over yourselves to hype him up. You can ride the hype train, sorry I don't see it.

Go check the stats, his best games was against Georgia. They lost that by 20 and were getting the ball ran down their throats the whole time. Outside of that game, very average numbers for a linebacker. This preseason monster had two tackles against the tremendous Aggie team of 2022.

I'm not sure what your argument is, lol. I know he plays for LSU. I did not make him preseason all American, the "experts" did. I'm sure they have watched him play more than you or I. My whole point is how good our D would look with talents like him and Hill playing for us. Both were committed to us until late in the recruiting cycles.

I hope not. The whole concept of recruiting the kid was sold as, "We don't have anyone on the roster like him. A true 0 technique run stopper that can occupy 2 OL allowing our backers to do their thing, blah blah".

If he's down to 330, we've got plenty of guys like that.

When is the last time the Aggies had a first team all conference LB? May be more recent than I remember?

It's hard to win or even contend for a SEC championship without a stud LB.

Don't see any fullbacks on the roster.

No, we don't. We have a couple of 6-1 or 6-1.5, 320-325 pound guys. We do not have that 6-3/6-4 330 pound guy. The guy who is 330 AND has the length. Our heavier noses are shorter, quicker single gap penetrating types.

Either way. He was never going to be able to play at 380. Maybe 340-350? Even then I'd be skeptical. But he needed to get down some weight. I don't know if he's 320, 330, or 340 right now. We'd all be guessing to say what he is. But there is really no reason to worry about a 6-3 DT weighing 330 pounds as being too small.

Uhhhh...he also had three (3) sacks and two (2) forced fumbles against Arky. Preseason accolades mean nothing if you haven't proved it on the field yet, but Perkins proved he was one (1) of the best in the SEC last season. Maybe not against us, but throughout the season he was.
Get back or get Jerry’d

What a foolish comment. Anyone with any amount of college football acumen was talking about what a monster he was as a freshmen.

Texags wants Perkins to fail so badly, but if he was an Aggie he would be the favorite player of everyone on here

Perkins had a subpar game against us since we keyed against him. He has the speed but not the size yet to be a difference maker no matter the scheme. You can get size a lot easier than speed, he will be an all American when all is said and done

We missed on Anthony Hill and the Perkins in the last two years. Imagine how good we'd be with those two in the LB room.

Didn't Perkins decommit from us, then he and his family burned an A&M cap on his Instagram?

Why would any Aggie pull for this guy? Why would "Texags" want anything other than him failing?

Why would we want him to succeed, since he plays for our competition?

Perkins wanted to come here at first but our recruiting coordinator burned a few bridges.

From what was said on here same coordinator screwed the pooch with Hill several times which ran him off.

A speedy LB in Perkins and a wall of a man in Hill, think both would have been starting here by the end of their freshman season
Pokey99

Agreed. Both are potential all American caliber talents. Didn't know about the recruiting issues. I thought it was something else.

You have your timelines mixed up. Perkins was always an lsu fan. He was from Louisiana. He committed here, but lsu always felt like home. He eventually went with his heart.

Our recruiting coordinator during Perkins cycle was widely regarded as one of the best. Hill was a different story
