I did watch the game on YouTube. I saw something completely different. There's a lot of complaining on here about the offense. Hard to say what we will look like in the fall but here are 10 things I saw.
1. The ball was spread around to a bunch of receivers and running backs. I mean everybody got involved. Lots of names called. I like that. You have to see what you've got past the studs that you know are starters.
2. Garza and Johnson look very solid at tight end.
3. O Line looks much larger and that the blocking was solid. Remember we are running against what should be a very solid defensive line. Lots of four down D Lineman and the box was stacked a bunch of times and we were still picking up solid yards.
4. Running backs look solid. Owens could be special in the near future. Remember he should still be a senior in high school. Moss and Daniels are serviceable but not special. Earnest Crownover is a big man who can block and will put his shoulder into you. I like that.
5. I felt like the offense was way more creative. Huge variety of plays. Remember we are still installing the offense. Offense takes longer to gel than defense. We were also missing a few players. Hopefully when the office is fully installed and understood we can go more hurry up. Micah Tease looks really solid.
6. We seemed to be very balanced.
7. WE THREW THE DEEP BALL!!!
8. QBs really need mastery of the offense. Mistakes will be limited as they understand the offense more. Both QBs did good and bad things. If both are healthy we will have two solid quarterbacks. I fully expect it to be Wiegman. Receivers have got to catch the ball!!!
9. Anias Smith looks rough. Still not 100%. Maybe a little heavy and out of shape. Did not look like the speed was there. We may be seeing why he was not a draft option. I fully expect him to be in top shaped by the fall.
10. We need to lead our receivers more. There were a number that we open and the throw was a bit behind them or short or right to them or slightly behind on the slant. Clean that up and there are likely some really big plays today. Especially in the middle. I like that Patrino attacks the middle more.
