Sources: Duke is targeting Texas A&M assistant Tyler Santucci to be the school's next defensive coordinator. He'd replace Robb Smith, who returned to his family's home in MInnesota to be closer to them.

So the guy this board rightfully universally acclaims (Elko) hires a guy many of you for some reason don't like to be his DC, and you think this is good for us?

What makes you think that's Santucci's fault? Back in RC's day, we had area recruiters, and your position coach wasn't necessarily involved in your recruiting until in the end of the process. Has that changed? Has LB recruiting solely on Santucci now? Or are you just guessing and connecting two things that might be related but might also be unrelated?

He may turn out to be a heck of a DC. I might rather have him than what I've seen out Durkin. But that is a strategy job. In the recruiting/motivational/development part he seems to be lacking.

Coach Elko brought Coach Santucci to A&M and I thought he would leave last year. There are few secrets in the coaching world so Coach Santucci's probable departure could have been used against us.

If the LB coach gets a DC position that would reflect as a positive on program and would seem to attract a top LB or defensive coach to replace him.

DJ Durkin will have an easier time replacing Santucci

The most Aggie thing that could ever happen is for Santucci to become a top 5 recruiter next year and a top flight DC. Because Aggies can't have nice things.

Top DC maybe (only because of Elko), but a top recruiter? That doesn't just happen over night

pretty much this. i respect elko and he sees something there with santucci so there must be something there. i just haven't seen it with santucci as our coach. so good luck and i hope we can find a stud lb coach to replace him.

If only he could take Durkin … I think line backers saw that playing 2 linebackers behind Durkin 3 man front did not help Santucci. He was a bit of genius three years ago but all those he recruited are pretty much gone now…
