He'd be my personal hero if he showed the final cash out value on his bet.

I actually really like the guy. Seems like a great guy and great asset to the city of Houston.

Should've bet UGA and gone for the big score.

I wasn't attacking him. I'm curious how low the offer on a $1.5 million bet was. Was there a time in the fourth quarter where they offered him $1k to cash out?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were. I said that because I was poking fun at him.

He probably got $2M in free publicity out of his $1.5M dollar bet.

You know he profited on as much furniture as he bet, right?

That's how he decides how much to bet.

It's a total hedge and successful marketing gimmick.

Yep, I know. Although not sure this promotion was long enough like his Astros bets were.

So it seems Mack SOLD $5 mil worth of much furniture, which would have been free to his customers if TCU won.

But his Hedge Only Cost Him $1.5 Mil?

OR he sold an extra $1.5 Mil of furniture and if he won, he'd have paid out that $1.5 to customers, but made $5.5 so he would have had a windfall of $4 mil. Probably another Promotion if that was the case.

Where did the $1.5M come from? It was over $3M.

This is the same as March Madness and Kansas. He won $13.5M in bets to cover the $12.9M he ended up having to refund.

It isn't about Mack. That dude's coming out ahead either way. Friends of mine refurnished their entire bedroom last fall and Mack paid it all. THERE's the winner.

Most furniture is about 45% margin. Mac's stuff is much higher. Closer to 75% I believe. So if you buy $5000 in furniture, Mac profits $3750. He puts $1250 in his pocket, and bets $2500 of your money on the Astros for you at 2:1 odds. You get your $5000 back if he wins. When he gets better odds, like the TCU game, he'll bet your $2500 for you at 4:1 odds, and give you double your money back if you win. Regardless of what happens, he will always have $1250 in his pocket, and doesn't have any risk on the rest of it. Just comes down to whether the casino keeps the rest of your money or its returned to the customers. If you are going to buy his stuff anyway, might as well take the "free" bet he offers. Otherwise, you'll come out about even if you buy cheaper furniture and bet the savings on TCU/Astros etc. yourself.

Sure Mac is giving up a good chunk of his margin, but his volume and total profit go up a lot to exceed his lost profits. He comes out ahead, and everyone is happy.

Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale jumped for joy in his front-row seats at Minute Maid Park as the Astros clinched the World Series with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 on Saturday. It was the culmination of a six-month ride for the self-proclaimed "huckster" that began May 13, in the parking lot of a Louisiana restaurant, where McIngvale placed a $3 million bet on the Astros to win the World Series at 10-1 odds on Caesars Sportsbook's mobile app.
"What can we say? We just wrote the biggest check in sports betting history to Mattress Mack for $30,000,000," Ken Fuchs, chief operating officer for Caesars Digital, said in a company release Saturday night.
