From Wikipedia:

"Petrino has two sons and two daughters with his wife, Becky. His older daughter, Kelsey, graduated from the University of Louisville; his older son, Nick, also attended Louisville. His younger son, Bobby, Jr., attended the University of Arkansas and his younger daughter, Katie played on Louisville's golf team.[44] He also has 5 grandchildren.[45] Petrino's younger brother Paul was most recently the head football coach at the University of Idaho."

(Is that better for those who need " " 's?)

I'm not sure when A&M got so PC, but if this was all you knew, you would say he has had a wonderful life and that his siblings have done nothing but follow in his footsteps and his wife still loves him. If someone has different or more to date info, please advise.

Otherwise, I would hope that the A&M family would circle around a guy and his family who has had issues in his life and offer him the love and respect Texas and A&M are known for. Middle age crazy is a thing and who knows what the rest of the story is. But, I doubt mony on Texags has faced the pressures and exposure this man has.

In short, give him a break. Let him do his job and quit destructing our program publicly. And welcome him and his to Aggieland like we used to do.

The negativity will all stop in a week, or so.

Many TexAgs are self-loathing and once people quit giving them the attention they seek, they'll move on to the next self-loathing topic.

Yea, that's what I get out of this. Perfect response for Texags. So witty.

yep. Soon they'll have to find something else to botch and moan about. There will be spurts of negativity towards petrino. Like when Weigman throws an incompletion in the Spring game... it'll be all petrinos fault. etc...

I wish you could default to only staff started topics and only see staff posts in all threads. Like, not have to click a little toggle every time, but have a setting to only see staff posts period no matter what.

We will circle around him if he wins, if he loses and our offense is stagnant, we will open our checkbook and give him his final coaching farewell gift. That's how this works.

Oh really? He just made his first steps on campus and very few are exactly supporting him. Maybe he's lost a few games here I'm not privvy to?

I get what you are saying, but I'm confident we have encircled him with a large guaranteed contract, that should tide him over till the results roll in. Nothing would make me happier than if he has tremendous success here and rehabilitates his career that he has completely undermined by himself at almost every turn.

Petrino walks to the beat of his own drum. Money aside, his history is proof that he's not gonna care if we encircle him or not.

I agree with this completely. I feel like this is his last bid to get himself back into P5 job candidate consideration. Hopefully, he is so wildly successful here that he can have that opportunity.

Really? What part of seeing that his kids went to and participated in the universities that he was employed by leads you to that conclusion? And, if you don't think Arkansass fans or any of the others wouldn't take him back in a second, you are delusional.

WTF?
You're whining about A&M faithful not welcoming him w open arms and cuddling him with a warm fuzzy blanket.
And all I said was that money aside, he's not the kind of personality that's gonna care if we welcome him with open arms or not.
He's a crusty ol' ball coach that's gonna show up and coach ball, regardless of what any haters think about it

I don't like what he did with the gal at Piggy, but it's not for me to make any judgments on him. I'll leave that where it belongs, with God. I'm perfectly happy with this hire, as I do know he is a great coach, and he won't kowtow to Jimbo at every moment of angst on the sidelines. I expect an explosive offense this coming season, and I anticipate a season with a floor at 10-2 and a NY6 bowl game.

You seem to be trying to speak away the main issue at Arkansas was that he not only had an affair with a student but then put her on the payroll.

If he'd merely had an affair with another consenting adult not associated with the program, I doubt anyone would care. He made the university vulnerable to lawsuits for unfair hiring.

Aside from that, he doesn't win many points for his mercenary ways of committing to jobs and then leaving either in the middle of a season or, in the case of UNLV, leaving before even coaching. He wasted UNLV's time.

He's not exactly Honor Code material.

The negativity will slow down within a week or three. Once the season begins it will flare back up, and if the wins and points don't come in bunches, it will ignite! I bet you see the picture of him in the neck brace north of 500 times

In every profession there are superstars whose personal lives are somewhere between questionable and despicable on moral grounds, and their recidivism to bad behavior can be infrequent or chronic.

Petrino's professional and personal histories are stained by multiple high-profile gaffs, all of which have been described by commenters on this site. Presently, his rehabilitation appears, outwardly, to have the upper hand. Congratulations to him.

Jimbo is under maximum, immediate pressure to win, and he is openly challenged to do "whatever it takes" to win championships. A new OC may be his last chance to find success and longevity at A&M, and Petrino is likely the best offensive mind he could successfully recruit.

We should support Jimbo and allow him the line he may use to lift the program to expected heights, or to hang his career in Aggieland. There is no good reason to do anything other than to hope the hire is highly successful. We'll see what happens.

All that, yes….plus know a guy who was on Cotton Bowl committee years ago. The year he won with Arky, he was so abrasive thru the entirety of the event/process that they said Arky would never be invited back with him as HC

That said though, the dude can no doubt coach some offense, so let's see how this show unfolds

I am really disappointed with some Ags who post on this site with insults, unprofessional remarks, etc. For those sips who want to post that junk my advice is we know who you are.

This is a good coach, what we need, and he is welcome with his entire family.,

Hiring your mistress to your football staff is not personal life. That is professional life and it's illegal.

This. We've got a substantial amount of people here who would rather hire Ned Flanders than a successful OC. How about we give him a few games first and see what he brings to the table. If he winds up arrested, or leaving his wife for a stripper and her pet monkey, get back to me and maybe I'll eat some crow. Need I bring up the personal peccadillos of one of the most highly respected and revered coaches we've ever had on this campus?
