Interesting - a 3rd player who left Bama is headed to TCU. RB Trey Sanders is the newest, following WR JoJo Earle and OT Tommy Brockemeyer.

What's even more interesting to me is Sonny Dykes' comment about it:

"We expect to compete against Alabama, not only in recruiting but on the field," TCU coach Sonny Dykes recently told ESPN's Dave Wilson. "So the thing you don't want to start doing is taking a bunch of guys at Alabama that can't play for them. Because in theory they shouldn't be able to play for you either."

So he's taking the players (presumably upgrades instead of guys coming there to be backups), but also says he doesn't want those type of guys because he wants to compete with Bama, not just be a home for their backups.

Either way, TCU looks to be setting up to be a power for a while.

Dykes says dumb stuff.

I don't dislike him. But I find his comments odd and dumb

3 oft-injured former Bamers who contributed almost nothing and couldn't stay on the field.

I don't doubt TCU has some NIL game and they did bring in 14 transfers, last year, but Patterson didn't seem to think so.

TCU has always done well with Transfers. If they think they're going to need to get started.

Couldnt be that strong, they have a tiny student population and alumni base compared to every other P5 university in TX not named Baylor.

But there is a lot of money in Fort Worth.

The one thing Dykes figured out is there are a lot of great DFW players that want to come home when they aren't immediate starters. He leveraged that at SMU and keeps utilizing at TCU with barter product to sell.

I was expecting them to have quite the fall off next year but now beginning to think they will not drop off as far as I initially thought. They are continuing to do good work in the portal.

But apparently, according to this board, you can only win with 3 star lunch pail guys!!

So now that they are getting 4-5 star guys they're gonna tank!!!

I guess they'll make it a game against UGA if UGA turns the ball over twice on the TCU goal line and throw two pick sixes

It will be left to be seen.

It isn't always about how good TCU is, but how good other teams in the BXII will be. Next year, the BXII adds 4 G5 teams and TCU plays Colorado, Nicholls, and SMU.

All 6 commits in the Portal are from the SEC and NONE of them were starters in the SEC. All but Helm were injured most of their time in the SEC.

Sips went 8-5
OU went 7-6

Will they suck in 2023? Probably not.

Colorado has 18 signed HS players and 17 transfers committed for 2023, including 7 from Jackson State. That's 35 players.

Does anyone know how many starters from their very experienced team won't be back next year?

Are the portal guys they are bringing in to fill those holes experienced ?

That, along with how weak or strong the BDF is next year will determine how much they fall off.

TCU being admitted into the Big 12 really hit Tech hard. Tech relied on D/FW kids for years.

I've posted this on here before. It is really hard to say who will be coming back. Only Duggan has announced he will enter the draft. With extra Covid years, at least 3 players on O have used that.

Offense
RS Sr: 4
LG: Avila - graduated HS in 2018. 5yrs
OC: Ali (Tr) - graduated HS in 2017. 6yrs
RG: Harris - graduated HS in 2017. 6yrs
WR Spivey - graduated HS in 2018 5yrs

Sr: 3
QB: Duggan - declared for draft
WR: Davis - '18 HS. I believe this is his Covid year
TE: Wiley - '19 HS. Could return, I suppose

RS Jr: 2 - These are the RT and LT
Jr: 3
WR Johnston leads - 1066 yd receiving #22 WR
RB Miller - 1399 yd Rushing. #15 RB

Quote:

Are the portal guys they are bringing in to fill those holes experienced ?
Most of the Portal guys were not starters in 2022 for their SEC teams. In fact, only 1 - CB Helm started a game and that was because the starter was injured. The other 5 transfers were mostly injured.

Quote:

More so than that will be who TCU gets scheduled in conference. The four new teams:
Central Florida (9-5) - Lost bowl to Duke: 30-13
Cincinnati (9-4) - Lost bowl to Louisville: 24-7
Houston (8-5) - Won bowl against ULaLa: 23-16
BYU (8-5) - Won bowl against SMU: 24-23

OOC is SMU, Nicholls St, and Colorado. Colorado is an unknown. They have 35 players coming in from HS and Transfer.

TCU could get away with not having to play both OU and TCU.

I could see the BXII in 2025 going:
North: BYU, Cincy, Kansas, K-State, Iowa St, WVa
South: Baylor, TCU, Tech, Houston, Okie St, UCF

That just looks awful. Bolded teams are from G5

Trey Sanders (RB):
'20: 4G, 30 Att, 134 yd
'21: 11G, 72 Att, 314 yd - 2nd on Bama in Yd Rushing
'22: 10G, 14 Att, 80 yd - 7th on Bama in Yd Rushing

I'm guessing he still has 2 yrs eligibility.

By comparison, TCU's RB is Jr and had 1,399 yd in 2022. So, if he is coming back, Sanders will be competing with him. If Kendre Miller leaves, Sanders could be the starter... if he stays healthy.

But, going from 7th for Alabama to starter on TCU doesn't bode well for the statement above.

I actually think this looks pretty fun. There will be a lot of parity. Many of these teams have been competitive in recent years.

Everybody knows DFW has the best escorts in all the country. Should make it easy to land recruits left and right even with just a little NIL money.

That's not how this works…the ladies at the athletic department just hook up the recruits with the cleat chasers, no need to pay for it

Yes, let's not give TCU any credit for playing defense...

How about when the Frogs turned it over with a key fumble at their own 35 and also threw a pick (dropped pass) in plus territory to set up 2 easy scores for Michigan? There was also the BS roughing the passer call that gave them 3 points. I really don't get why this spread is 2 TDs.

The announcers sure did when they complimented the play of the TCU defense on the fumble by Mullings at the goal line. The fumble occurred without any contact from TCU. Was that a great defensive play by TCU? Or just a lucky break? Michigan was down 14-3 and may have been robbed on the previous play, the 50 yard reception that looked like a TD.
