As a Razorback fan I hate this hire.

Bobby Petrino will do a very good job at Texas A&M. He's a brilliant offensive mind. This changes the game for you. Petrino is one of best at adapting his offense to the personnel he's got. Honestly, that's what appeared to be one of Jimbo Fisher's problems, unable to adapt to his roster. You will love the offense. As a hog I hate it.

Maybe the worst hire ever, since Joe Paterno is dead.

Heard the same from many other Hog fans. I'm excited about the hire. If you can get over his indiscretions while at Arkansas I can't imagine any Aggie fan having an issue with it. First thing I think of when you mention the name Petrino is his photo in the neck brace. There's no way to un-see that and I think that's the issue. But everyone has their downfalls and he's paid a HEAVY price for it. He's likely only staying a year or two because I feel sure that he is using this as a stepping stone to get a P5 HC position. I'm okay with that as it only happens if he kicks ass while he's here.

I have a problem with it because he really hasn't been that good since Arkansas. Every Sumlin thread takes out the Johnny years and says "Well, without Johnny, Sumlin was losing 5 games a year."

Petrino after Arkansas:
8-4
9-4
8-5 (w/ Lamar Jackson)
9-4 (w/ Lamar Jackson)
8-5 (w/ Lamar Jackson)
2-8
5-5
8-4
5-6

The phrase "ass my dude" comes to mind.

Because the records say everything. . .

Look at offensive output. Every year except for the last at offensive rankings were better than what we managed this season. Over half of those rankings are good. He has a stronger trend-line of successful offenses than not.

Well sure, take out his good years at Louisville the 1st stint, take out his good years at Arkansas, and try to discredit years where he had a good player (that he recruited and developed.... Sumlin inherited Johnny and the stellar OL)... And sure, he's "ass" as a HC.

He was hired as OC here, mind you.

The thing that cracks me up on this topic, I guarantee most of the ones b**ching the loudest about this hire, " oh god, horrible, neck brace, banging a GA" etc etc……..betcha if you go back a couple of months, they were the same ones talking about "yeah I'd take Lane Kiffin in a heartbeat. He's awesome". Seriously. They'd take that doo sh over Petrino.
HustlerAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Made Arkansas much better than they were previously. (and they fell apart right after he left)

Turned Missouri State around to get their first FCS playoff berths in back-to-back seasons. (first playoffs since 1990...first ever back-to-back)

Good coach...bad morals....but presumably he learned his lesson in the last 10 years.

Obviously using A&M as a stepping stone job, but what coach isn't using an OC position as a stepping stone? Keep him 1 or 2 seasons and let him do some good things and move on somewhere else.

Your opinion is biased, due to the enjoyment to got out of the ass rape Jerry Sandusky gave you.

Look at HC records at Louisville before and after Petrino.

Ron Cooper: 13-20
John Smith: 41-21
Bobby Petrino: 41-9
Steve Kragthorpe: 15-21
Charlie Strong: 37-15
Bobby Petrino: 34-18
Scott Satterfield: 25-24

If you dont think he can coach you are hopeless.

I would share your optimism about the offensive mind and what could happen.. BUT Jimbo hired a fired retired HC to coach OL. While it is true talent can make a bad coach look good. WE HAD OLine talent last year with great QBs who limped and we're under duress all year. Weigman saw that rollout and quick release was vital to survival. But if Addazio is the man.. I PITY any OC. Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. I pray your right.. but I saw a Freshman O Lineman Correct ADDAzio last year and Addazio agreed. Changed whit board and nodded. That gives me little hope. Their are sound guys available. Jimbo did not want to hire someone sharper than himself. That Cost A&M a 13 or 14 win season. If our guys knew assignments.. holes would have been there all year for Achane. He got 40 yards on 15? Carries against Sam Houston? IF JIMBO allows Petrino to bring in an OL coach.. season will be fun

That's his head coaching record. He lacked stifling defenses on those teams, but those teams scored a lot of points. The Aggies have good defensive players of whom Petrino will not be responsible. He will be in charge of offensive performance only. I'm excited about this coming season.

I agree with your assessment of Jimbo. Adjusting to your players' skill set is one of the most important qualities a college coach must possess especially with the transience of players today.

I hope Petrino still has the mojo he had at UA.

If you think his indiscretions were limited to Arkansas, you're woefully uninformed. He's a train wreck who leaves a wake of destruction behind him everywhere he goes. This will end badly, mark my words.

TAMU Core Values

  • Excellence
  • Integrity
  • Leadership
  • Loyalty
  • Respect
  • Selfless Service

Either you believe in these values and live them or they are just words on the wall.

Petrino has shown over and over that he is a low values individual and does not represent core values at A&M like integrity and loyalty.

If these are just words on the wall, then they mean nothing.

Petrino Scoring Offense:

Year- National Rank/Conference Rank-PPG

Louisville:
2018-No. 122/14-19.8;
2017 -No. 11/1-38.1
2016-No. 6/1-42.5
2015-No. 65/8-28.7
2014-No. 53/6-31.2

Arkansas State:
2013-No. 66/5-29.2

Fact is in the last decade his FBS record includes 2 great offenses, 1 terrible offense, 3 mediocre offenses.

That is not the mark of some great offensive mastermind who is a top notch coach at developing players & out scheming his opponents.

The game changes & what he did ten plus years ago is not a useful metric compared to what he has accomplished recently. If Fisher's offense still worked as well as they did in '13 we would not be in this situation.

I think at this point there weren't many more legit options who had the experience. Waiting until after NSD and bowl games was a huge sign there weren't lots of wanted options who wanted to come in for Jimbo. Coupled with the fact BP accepted and started a position at another school not too long along seems to suggest this was last ditch desperation hire for someone who wasn't going to get another opportunity in P5 by anyone else in the country.
