"Jimbo Fisher is bringing in former Arkansas and Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino, one of the most respected offensive minds in football, to be Texas A&M's offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN."

"Petrino spent the previous three seasons as Missouri State's head coach and guided the Bears to FCS playoff appearances in two of his three seasons. At the time of Petrino's arrival, Missouri State had gone 30 years without a playoff appearance."

"At Arkansas, Petrino's offenses ranked second in the SEC in scoring in 2010 (36.5 points per game) and first in 2011 (36.8 points per game) at a time when defense ruled the SEC."

I hope that trend continues as our OC.

That's the key. He wasn't hired to run the program; he's going to focus on OC and will have resources he never dreamed of at other schools. Plus, he's going to have Jimbo over his shoulder just like Saban does.

Oh well if Jimbo is looking over his shoulder suddenly this hire looks great.

But those days are over. Saban and Smart adjusted how they recruit and scheme defense, among others.

Give him the keys to the offense (just not the motorcycle)

and defense against a good offense is just a myth in the current game, regardless of how they adjusted. UGA and their elite defense just got steamrolled a few days ago. Back in the day, I was firmly on the 'defense wins championships' bandwagon. Those days are gone. I'd rather have a great offense and a merely competent defense these days. Defense is dead in the modern CFB world.

Well everything goes out of the window without a solid O-line.

What would you think of a recruit whose only other offer was UNLV?

UGA went against one of the best offenses in all of modern college football, coached by one of the best offensive playcallers in all of modern college football.

You'd need to go back to 2016 to find the last time Petrino had an offense in the top 10.

Saban brings in guys like Sarkisian, Joey Freshwater, et al... and most of you look at it as "rehabilitation."

Why can't we do the same.

Because those guys wanted to change and did. There's nothing in Petrino's 61 years that indicate he's capable of changing. Horrible, horrible person.

That certainly didn't read like an ESPN quote about anything A&M does.

I love how people think that Jimbo Fisher is some random slap who knows nothing about offense. You know, the guy who led JaMarcus Russell to being the #1 overall pick in the draft and awesome talents like Christian Ponder to 1st round status.

If A&M scored 36 points per game this past season, we'd be 10-2 and in a good bowl, likely NY6

It is unfortunate that ESPN had to go back more than a decade to pull up those offensive stats at Arky. Gosh - I'll bet Jimbo's offense those same years was equally successful. How was Neckbrace's offense when he was an OC in the NFL? At most recent stop (Missouri State)? Was he let go from his last head coaching gig? Why?

I also know many have cited the 2016 Louisville offensive performance - but it is pretty clear that Lamar Jackson was the cause of that success much like JFF was for Sumlin and KK in 2012 and 2013.

Sure hope that this hire doesn't result in additional current offensive players to consider late moves to the transfer portal...

Jimbo also coached a couple of decent NFL running backs at FSU. Dalvin Cook and Devonta Freeman. And Jalen Ramsey a decent db.

Petrino is a home run hire. When posters without AgTags hate the move, you knows it's the right decision. Louisville with Lamar Jackson was unstoppable. Jackson is nothing like JFF and Kingsbury. KK hardly ever called a play that JF didn't change or improvise. Lamar was running plays called by Petrino.

Good thing their are big money Aggies making the decisions to fork out stupid money for Jimbo and his horrible contract.

One of the dumber sentences I've read here in a while. As evidenced by your ag tag.

Petrino's teams never had the quality of recruits on the o-line that we have.

Time to Coach them Up.

the same as Mack Brown without Young,
Sumlin without Johnny,
Chizek without Newton,
Orgeron without Burrows,
Jimbo without Winston,

At least Patrino has enough cache, so we all know he will be running his own offense and not just doing what Fisher told him to do. You wouldn't get that with some "up and come'er" OC hire.

I think he has a good shot if success but if we were going to hire a disgraced former HC I would have gone with Briles.
