I watched them play the Horns in Austin earlier this year. They had a really fun team to watch and good skill players. Traylor's scheme was a lot of fun to observe as it turned around the Horn athletes for a few quarters.

All that being said, you could tell that if they played in any sort of decent conference they would struggle to be a .500 team. They don't have the guys in the trenches to keep up with legitimate P5 conference athletes. They got steamrolled through the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Absolutely incredible what that school has done building that program from nothing to a legit top 100 team consistently and Conf USA title contender year in year out. A&M should take notes. Not sure building a football program in SA even makes sense at this point due to how well UTSA is doing/ cost of stadium etc

I was at the Miami game when UTSA was playing Texas in Austin. That game started an hour earlier than the Miami vs Texas A&M game. I saw the scoreboard and noticed UTSA leading Texas 17-7 at one point. After UTSA led Texas 17-7 with 9:36 left in the 2nd quarter before Texas outscored UTSA 34-3, including 24-3 in the 2nd half. UTSA does not have the athletes to keep up with most Power 5 teams.

Appy State shouldn't either, but yet here we are having watched them dominate the line of scrimmage against us...these G5 schools only win when the P5 plays like crap or like they don't care.

When they join the SEC or even any P5 conference then come talk to me.

Midmajors that get sympathy ranked in the Top 18-25 range are fools gold.

No doubt UTSA is a great Group of 5 school. They'll get to a bowl game, beat some uninspired, opt-out heavy Power 5 school, and end the year ranked around 17…despite the fact they're nowhere near the 17th best team in the country. Drop those guys in a P5 conference…or even in the American or Mountain West…and they're only slightly above .500.

I'm Class '79, but I got my masters at UTSA... so, yeah: #birdsup!

Sure, UTSA is not in a power conference, but Coach Jeff Traylor remains a helluva coach. (BTW: all three of his kids are Aggies, two of whom have already graduated. I believe his daughter is in her final year in the Mays School. In fact, his oldest son, Jordan, played at A&M as a walk-on QB and is now an assistant coach for the New Orleans Saints. So, there's THAT connection. )

Coach Traylor's 'Runner team this year was beset with injuries all season, particularly on the OL. At one point, they were playing a walk-on OT! Yet, they still managed to go undefeated in their conference. Talk about grit... whew!

This tidbit highlights the distinguishing element for Power-5 schools: roster depth. (I'm not smart enough to figure it all out, but I sense that all this portal stuff may end up benefiting Group of 5 schools more than we know. Hmmmm... time will tell.)

What's even more impressive is the fact that the 2022 season is a follow-up campaign of exemplary performance to last year's outing where the Roadrunners were undefeated until their final game against UNT. The tie-over is unmistakable: it's Coach Traylor.

So, yeah, I'm all in on #birdups!

PS: I've shared this final tidbit almost incessantly for the past 20+ years on various Aggie bulletin boards. Texas A&M has more in common with UTSA than you know. How?... we've both been "shat" upon and shafted by the mothership in Austin. Ubiquitously. Consistently. The Horn arrogance simply knows no bounds. So, look at it this way; the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I went to UTSA for 2.5 years before transferring to A&M . Lots of great friends graduated from there. early 90's so prior to the football program. Has been awesome though to see it come together and do as well as they have been. Always an Aggie, but proud of Road Runners and will always have my support.

They recruit well for what conference they are in. If they go to a better conference then id say they'd recruit and perform better. Traylor isn't long for utsa
