Convince him he'd make more here vs the NFL. Also improving his draft position and "hopefully" we will have a much more dynamic offense.

What's dumb about it? Being selective in 2nd or 3rd round would result in a lower guaranty money.

Believe it or not. Players going to the nfl is a good thing. Love Achane, but next man up if he decides to leave.

Going to the NFL is a great thing, but it's all a business. If he can make more staying for a year, then turn around and be a higher draft pick, then it makes perfect sense. All about the $$

If Smith or Achane stays it would be awesome. Not going to happen though.

The thought of paying players to keep them from going to the NFL. I hate what college football is becoming.

In this insane hypothetical, I'd rather allocate this $5MM across linebackers, a pass rusher, and the Oline. There are far more pressing holes than RB looking ahead to next year

Achane can be a really good pro. He'd be a nightmare in the Chiefs offense.

Why wouldn't he run track professionally If that's still an option?

Make decent money and don't damage your body long term.

Where to begin? I'll go by numbered points.

1. Bryce Young, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, has $3.2 million of total valuation in NIL deals. You're saying, let's concoct enough booster deals together to pay our running back from a 5-7 team 1-1/2 times more than the top-rated NIL player in the NCAA. We're establishing the marketing value to beg a player to come back to A&M for another year at 150% more money than the Heisman Trophy winner who has also played in 2 national title games, has a 23-4 record as a starter, and will likely be a top 5 pick in the NFL draft.

2. You're establishing a precedent for our players that says, we will pay you money if you don't go pro. So what happens in January when Connor Weigman says he wants $7 million in NIL deals for 2023 or he's going to the transfer portal? Or when any other talented skill player says he wants an Achane deal or he's going to the pros? And if you only offer him $2 million he says, so now you're saying Achane is better than me, but when I got recruited, you said I was better than Achane and the future of A&M football, why am I not worth the same money?

3. Let's compare Achane to Kenneth Walker III, who was the 41st pick of the draft, meaning the 9th pick of the 2nd round. Here's his contract: Kenneth Walker signed a 4 year, $8,441,581 contract with the Seattle Seahawks, including a $3,319,332 signing bonus, $5,439,040 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,110,395.
He's got more than $5 million guaranteed and this weekend his team is 6-4, tied for first in the NFC West and in major contention for a playoff spot, where even more bonuses kick in. He also does endorsements for Panini and Buffalo Wild Wings, which I don't know the values of, but are probably pretty hefty. He doesn't have to pretend to go to class and keep his grades up. He does whatever he wants to in his free time.

I'll hang up and listen.

maybe also cause if he stays we will have every running back leave for the portal.

CEH can't even stay on the field though. The jump to the NFL is Huge.

Bryce Young says hi. His coach bragged about his million dollar deal last year before he ever even took a single snap for Bama.

I disagree.
I think you are looking at it wrong. It could give players on the fence, or with not ideal draft prospects, the opportunity to keep playing. How many kids left for the draft because of needing money or due to receiving bad advice. This helps. We had multiple guys leave early chasing a payday and they didn't get drafted. Perhaps NIL would have convinced them to stay one more year. It might have improved their grade or not, but the team and their personal situation would be better.

I don't think NIL works the way you imagine it does…

If they choose to go pro but don't get drafted and can't find their way into the NFL, then maybe they just aren't as talented or smart as they think they are. They also are listening to the wrong people. But you think boosters/companies/sponsors should pay these kids to stay another year?

I fell in love with college football because the kids were not corrupted by big money (I never cared if they were getting a few grand here and there)

Achane is worth significantly more than our offense coordinator if we are looking at their overall contribution.
