Ok, let's try this again....

I've seen Sumlin vs Jimbo comparisons, which focus on their win/loss record while at A&M. While that is valid, I thought I'd take it one step further. I wanted to show a true comparison of Sumlin at A&M vs Jimbo at FSU. It's a true year to year comparison of both programs, focusing on 4 offensive stats, since Jimbo is supposed to be the offensive guru/QB whisperer. These numbers represent NCAA stat rankings (http://stats.ncaa.org/rankings/change_sport_year_div)

I guess I'm just making a point that we paid a lot of money for average results.

I think the analysis is helpful, but Jimbo recruits more balanced between offense and defense than Sumlin did (and Sherman, and Fran) so what we have today is a more effective defense and an offense that is ball control oriented and so far the ball control protected the relatively more shallow depth on defense.

Whether this concept is workable as we get talent in place yo fully staff it is different discussion than thinking comparing just stats tells a complete story. It is helpful to compare, but we only had one game which was horrible on defense. It might not be "baked" as a game phase, but the directionality is somewhat promising.

Offense just has a lot of unexpected holes that impact results. It might be complexity though I doubt that the whole story. It might be too conservative and Saban allowing his offense to become more dynamic and STILL losing two games is a caution on being either static or too dynamic.

But the statistics are very much aggregated not point by point and the play to play tactics is probably causing the heaetache not the summary per se (other than score.)

If you want to argue the merits of the coaches, add in Summy's results when he was at Arizona...

I feel like the media has been pretty much been ringing this bell all year but thanks for your input.

In 2019 at Arizona, Sumlin went 4-8.

We can rest easy, knowing that, at worst, Jimbo is going to do as well as Sumlin this year.

So...what you're saying is, we picked up a coach that was trending down in his offensive performance at his old school, then paid him Saban type numbers, let him get comfortable and fat, gave him an extension, and now we're the laughing stock of college football?

There's an Aggie joke in there somewhere

Why? Unless those results are going to be used to bring Sumlin back, they don't seem relevant.

Fisher's results at FSU precipitated getting hired at A&M. Whatever happens after someone leaves doesn't impact their hiring or their results at A&M.

You're using that we word again.

I didn't know that BMAs posted in the zoo.

Well, I guess you could put it that way.

Interesting observance while looking through the game results of that 2017 Noles team. That was the season the freshman Blackman took over at QB after the first game. In the games that they lost that season, their running game was absolutely throttled. It was also throttled against Florida, but they managed a win there.

This season, we have watched all of our opponents sell out to stop the run. I don't know if that means anything, I just find it interesting.

Pretty sure the BMAs that brought Jimbo to College Station never bothered to look at the stats. They were to mesmerized by the National Championship trophy that Jimbo hoisted up in 2014.

Those 2018 stats are also skewed a bit because of the 7OT game.
