With the likelyhood of Jimbo actually getting an OC slim and the likelyhood of him getting fired even slimmer, what are the chances that a new play-caller steps in next year? Does anyone have names of people that have worked with, under or against Jimbo that may be willing to come here? Are there any Sexton clients that recently had a change or would be a good candidate to make a jump? There needs to be some sort of hope other than Connor in order to keep any sort of recruiting aspirations going into early signing.

The real question isn't whether or not he will hire an OC, it's whether or not he will actually allow him the freedom to call the plays and determine scheme.

He may claim that he does, but will he honestly stay out of his ear during the games? I kind of doubt it.

We need a dishonest OC that tells us we will win it all…

Asking for names is kind of silly, lots of guys you ve never heard of got a chance and proved to be outstanding Coordinators and lots of guys you have heard of failed. Hopefully Jimbo understands how tenuous his situation is and his survival instinct takes over

Some of my favorites...

Garrett Riley - TCU OC
Zach Kittley - Tech OC
Warren Ruggerio - Wake Forest OC
Phil Longo - UNC OC

The first 2 offer a bit more in terms of innovation and explosiveness. They're young guys, products of Lincoln Riley and Kliff Kingsbury.

The latter 2 are a bit more traditional, they'll fit a bit better with the style of football Jimbo is trying to implement now. Their experience may put them in a better position to tell Jimbo, "No. We aren't going to do that."

Longo is the only one on that list I see as a real possibility. I don't see him going Air Raid and Wake's Offense relies so much on the long mesh it would be prone to turnovers and getting your QB killed against elite pass rushers.

I don't think Jimbo will give up on scheming but handing off play calling could help a ton. A&M's offense looks good when it is simplified and scripted. When we get a few possessions into games and Jimbo starts making calls off of feel he's either getting predictable (so defenses know exactly what's coming) or overly complicated (so we're not on the same page). Part of the issue with an offense that relies so much on reading the other team is they can dictate what you do and try to force you into things you're not good at. A few more fakes, double moves, etc. a game would open things up where we're not seeing the same ten yard cross with 3 guys in the same area or safeties crashing with reckless abandon when we hand the ball off.

Why don't we give the one we have a try? He had pretty prolific offenses at Memphis.

You mean his HC had pretty prolific offenses at Memphis. Part of why Jimbo wanted him is that he's a good mind who goes with the flow that his HC sets. We need someone to challenge Jimbo

After the Bama loss, Looch was saying that. I've been saying, "Expect a new OC, but expect someone to come in and work on growing the existing system, not someone to re-invent the offense."

But things have just gotten worse. I mean, rock bottom, as bad as it gets. I've wondered how much Jimbo blames himself and how much he blames his players, but he just looks beat in his pressers. It might be low enough for Jimbo to bring someone in who challenges his system. I'm not expecting him to give some OC the keys and say, "the offense is yours," but he might let them drive the car as much as he does.

Think it would benefit giving one of those honorary titles of "co-head coach" or "HC in waiting" to get a bigger name?

I've got a guy I'd root for but nobody here would know him or want him... but I'll put the name out there because I think he's going to be big time.

There's a guy by the name of Ben Arbuckle who is currently the youngest D1 coordinator in the country at Western Kentucky. He was QB coach year 1 and promoted in second year to OC. He's learned under some greats and I've seen his name pop up as an up and comer. Played QB at West Texas A&M.

Doubtful any big time program would give him a shot just yet, but keep an eye on him, I think he's going to be a big name in the coming years.

Well that leaves a pretty short ass list of potential OCs b/c very few of them still run a true pro style like Jimbo. There might actually be more FBS teams running option at this point.

why would an OC want to come in here now? unless we threw them a bunch of money and if we did, would we really want them then?

Absent a truly massive exodus (well beyond what people are anticipating) you'd be loaded with talent for a few years.

Additionally our last really good OC now has an NFL gig.

Better hire a great O line coach first. A better offense starts there.

Why not Joe Brady?

Any decent OC will want to bring a few offensive coaches with him. I think Jimbo might be at the point that he is willing to change. I think a guy with close ties to the Tx HS coaches would be the way to go. What non power 5 schools are putting up lots of points that use a Te? Mike Bloesch from North Texas is my dark horse. They are putting up big numbers on offense.

Hey, you guys watch that Fan Football League that Johnny played in? I bet you guys could win that league by calling in plays.

Not sure on OC, but it would not be a bad idea to bring in Conner's OC from Bridgeland as a QB/Off consultant and even have him work with the new OC and definitely with 15.

He played juco QB in Texas and was a backup QB at UH and made it to OC at a 6a in pretty short order once entering coaching…….. Main thing is Conner loves the guy and it might just be the buffer he needs to avoid the portal and excel while here w/o contracting the Jimbo Aggie QB curse.
