Was already going to be a small class, but with portal potential maybe it'll grow.

Assistant coaching changes will need to be made immediately after the LSU game which means conversations need to be getting started right now.

Jimbo is a late closer in recruiting traditionally.

We have GOT to use the portal to plug gaps. Finding 4-5 of the right portal guys + keeping guys from going into the portal + trying to recruit a good class will make or break Jimbo's time here.

I'd say top 20 class has to be signed + portal guys + keeping the portal out damage limited.

ND recruited a top 10 (ranked 10) class on the heels of going 4-8 in year 7. Precedent is there for Jimbo.

I'm not sure he can do it but we'll see.

Texas has been bad but recruited at a high level for a decade. We've been perennially 8-4 but recruited at a very high level. It can be done.

As long as the $$$ is flowing, I don't think recruiting will be greatly affected.

Anthony Hill is visiting Texas this weekend for the TCU game. Lots of chatter about him flipping to the sips.

Losing Hill would be a bad blow especially after losing Perkins to lsu last year.

The only thing we have not recruited well enough is LB and that is showing this season. The ones we have signed are quality but not enough #s IMHO, should have recruited more LBs the past two seasons. Of course with Durkin's no LB defense maybe we don't need them.....

Anyway, any player that does want to transfer they would just play out the season then go tell Jimbo they are going in the portal. My understanding is that it is closed right now so you can't even be in the portal now if not already. You could go ahead and tell the coach and declare, but that serves no purpose. The high profile kids they already know where they are going to go anyway.

Point being even though none of them have declared to date, does not mean within 24 hours after the lsu game there won't be several, indeed I expect 4-5.

As for the recruiting class, it was going to be a small class anyway. Jimbo is a good recruiter and closer and that is one thing I am not concerned about is signing a good class to fill our needs, regardless of ranking and **s, etc. as this class will not be heavy (or even light) on kids that make a class be a top 5 class (WR, RB, QB, etc.).

Regardless of Hill, IMHO we need to sign 4 LBs, currently have 2 committed including Hill.

U of H was blown out in basketball on national TV one time. Long time ago. Their coach Guy Lewis was asked, on TV after the game, how the loss would impact recruiting.

He said something like "its obvious we need some players. Come to U of H and help us get better".

Maybe Jimbo can use something like that.

He could start actually utilizing the transfer portal, his ignoring it is one of the reasons why we're in this mess

Certainly would be nice to keep Hill but I'd more than anything love to see a few LB's from the portal. Tired of watching this year top rated 18 year olds get thrown around like rag dolls by experienced players in the SEC. Perkins is certainly the exception.

I don't remember where but I do remember reading something about Hill was very solid. If I dreamt reading it then it was a very vivid dream.

There's questionable activity on the tfxr portal....several coaches have alluded to it (incl Jimbo). It's not that A&M doesn't want to use it, but players have already decided where they are going (been pre-recruited/swayed) prior to entering the portal.

Programs now have Portal recruiting coordinators. If we have guys leave, will be interesting to see where they end up (i.e., pre-tampering by other schools, players reaching out on their own, etc.).

tu still thinks they might sway Denver H, PJ Williams, and EStew (1st 2 seem possible if they are in trouble with the program, but if EStew moves on....then we'll see the 'reasons').

It's questionable how LK signed 17 transfers last year (USC added 20, Ol Piss 17) and what drew all those transfers (some followed Lincoln to USC and what he sold, but LK needed 17 players...but a couple were USC guys leaving too).

At this point I hope they get Denver Harris. Guy has seemingly been a cancer in his short time here in any event.

Yeah, portal will be like so easy this year. Like probably no competition for the top 30 guys in that thing, and we already have 3-4 of the 2023 top portal guys in our locker room. Sshhh dont let anybody know about the portal thing so we can get the best'est guys and win next yr.

Tampering? We are 1-5 in conference play, and 3-6 overall. You don't need to tamper with a housefire, you can just stand outside and wait for it all to collapse

Portal players are less risk. The Tides' starting LB, LT and RB are portal players.
