Know how to win in Aggieland. He understood the Aggie culture and embraced it and he knew what it took to win at A&M. Jimbo needs to have a one on one talk with Jackie to get his thoughts on how to coach football at A&M.

It has nothing to do with coaching at A&M. Jimbo doesn't know how to coach, period (or has just chosen not to do it anymore)

Jimbo hasn't yet shown that he's interested in anyone else's opinion.

Maybe that will change.

Totally agree. Jackie put the program above his own ego and always did what was best for Aggie football. Jimbo needs to learn that same lesson.

LOL

Jimbo: "I have no idea how to coach."

Also Jimbo: "I'm just going to not coach anymore."

"understood the Aggie culture"

What exactly is that anymore, and how is it relevant to fielding a championship team?
You want them to march in a line, squeeze their balls, and yell really loud?

"knew what took to win at A&M"

Newsflash, what it takes to win anywhere will work at A&M too. There's no special A&M juice required to win at A&M

"Winning" is national championship. Jackie didn't figure that out

Jackie's ego is what brought the wood, and broke the good ol boy mold of ridiculousness.
But even Jackie didn't win it here either.

Jackie understood the importance of the 12th Man and he always embelished it. He built his blitzing 3-4 defense to take advantage of the 12th Man and our home field advantage. Our current defense has NO IDENTITY and they give up 300-400 yards rushing on Kyle Field. Jackie brought the 12th Man kickoff team to help incorporate the fighting Texas Aggie spirit into the team. Even in this day and age of NIL and the portal, I believe most players still want to play for the school they represent and A&M is still the greatest most unique school in the world with our traditions.

He embraced it, not sure he embellished it.

They ran a 3-4 because it was most effective against how the game was played at the time. It wasn't built special to involve 12th man. Check out the NFL teams in those days. LT and the Giants?

Current defense isn't good, period.

Bringing a student body kickoff team worked at the time. It faded out quick. And we'd be idiotic to do it now. Most of the time we're kicking out the end zone anyway.

In this day, the elite players are gonna act like mercenaries. Hold onto your butts after the seasons over. We might set a record with how many portal out.

A&M's still awesome. But it's changed a lot. And the game and the players have too.

OMG. You have to have the players AND coaching or you don't. Bama student body is nothing special. Kyle field is NOT a home field advantage because we can't win there and can't defend it against the Mississippis or app states. There's no "getting it" you have it or you don't and when you don't you should be fired. That's what big boy programs do. Win or be fired, there's no uniqueness to take into account.

You are correct, Jackie had the best players and the best coaching staff. That's why Jimbo needs to go ask Jackie what he did to be successful at A&M. Jackie knew what it took to win big at A&M and he was the most successful coach we've had by far since 1939.

We aren't asking Jimbo to "win big" whatever that meant then we're asking him to win national championship which we've never done.

Discussed on another thread, but I'll bring it here. If Brian Kelly can win at LSU, then we don't need to be concerned with this kind of stuff. Just go get a good coach and it will work itself out.

Agree. Winners also don't saddle themselves with guaranteed 10 year contracts, or extensions to said contracts without first having skins on the wall.

Our boosters have never seen success so they probably don't know how to get it right. But yeah incentives would be nice.

You obviously weren't around in the Jackie era, because he built a program that could play and beat anyone. He gained control of the state of Texas recruiting and had us in the top 5 in the nation and it was headed to the very top.

Apparantly it takes a lot here because we've never seen it. Our boosters don't know how to make good contracts because we've never seen us be on top ever and getting all the talent still couldn't do it

The teasips and NCAA stopped him from winning a natty at A&M. And while we're on this discussion let's give Bum Bright the credit for knowing how to identify a great coach and luring him to A&M. Jackie was so damn good the sips had to turn him in to the NCAA

There have been 3 Florida schools to win a Natty since the year 2000. This whole conspiracy stuff is lame. Not having a Natty is disgraceful, doesn't matter who our rival is

And it will never happen at A&M until the current coach puts aside his ego and does what's best for the program. Jimbo worked for Saban and Bobby Bowden, two of the greatest coaches of all time. He needs to hit the reset button and do what is best for the program and it might help if he went to pick the brain of the best coach to ever grace the sidelines of Kyle Field.

As a program, A&M is an incredibly wealthy and bigger version of Mississippi state. Maybe that's not accurate, they've been to Atlanta.

A&M's dominance in the 90's was due to playing in a god awful conference and would get depantsed in the cotton bowl or just about any other bowl. Caught lightning in a bottle against Kansas state but followed that up with getting smashed by Ohio state.
Houstonag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It has nothing to do with Aggie culture or any other school's culture. An effective HC builds a team and strategizes as a team to recognize the individual players skills and puts in place a system of plays that allows them to succeed. Preparation, practice, adapting and making adjustments is the key to long term success.
