Had some time this morning and thought this was interesting.
There is as much difference in composite talent between Bama and Notre Dame (1 & 10) as Notre Dame and Kentucky (10 & 29).

that's nothing. there is more distance between our composite talent ranking and our actual ranking than any team in the nation.

Several ranked teams this week:

Okl St - 40 talent level
Syracuse - 67 talent level
K St. - 69 talent level
Wake Forest - 71 talent level
Kansas - 72 talent level.

Sickening!

That tells you all that you need to know that it's not our talent level it's the coaching. 4 of the top 5 are mainstays in the playoffs every year while we have never even sniffed it. Every one of those top 5 coaches had early success at their respective schools while Jimbo has not.

Never even sniffed it? I get the disappointment, but how quickly we forget the 9-1 season against all-SEC teams, getting snubbed for Ohio State and Notre Dame for the playoffs, and finishing #4 after our Orange Bowl win. If we play Ole Miss, we are probably 10-1 that season.

Don't confuse Total Team Talent with experience.

In general players with 3-4 years of experience will almost always outperform Freshman regardless of stars - especially on the OL and DL

In the portal ERA, many teams are loading up on experience

I think I saw where Kansas has 20+ transfers - most being JR/SR/GR level

I get the feeling we have some arrogance or hangups that prevent us from considering some of these coaches who get more with less. Aranda is an example. They may not win it all but chances are they'll win a lot more than we have over the past 25 years.

Which team does less with more talent in the entire country?

TEXAS A&M

MIAMI

figures that it was a 17-9 snoozefest between them.

hard to believe the Aggies have top 5 talent yet lost to App State at home.

hard to believe Miami has top 15 talent and lost to MTSU at home.

there seems to be no way to explain this other than horrendous coaching and preparation.

Maturity matters.

Bama 5*
5 Freshmen (2 red shirt)
4 Sophomores
5 Juniors

Georgia 5*
7 Freshmen (2 redshirt)
4 Sophomores
2 Junior
1 Senior

TAMU 5*
8 Freshmen (all true freshmen)
1 Sophomore
1 Junior

A&M has 2 5* who have been on campus more than 12 months. Bama has 11 and Georgia has 9. This is similar for the 4*.

AT LAST...! A silver lining within the dark cloud! Given a choice, I would rather lose to App St. than MTSU. App St. has had some success and achievement over the years. MTSU not as much.

I will welcome the Bye Week, so I can watch football without a care.

I get that we're younger than the 3 teams ranked ahead of us, but we're still ranked 4th.

For those that don't want to spend the time searching so far down the list...

MS State is 29
App State is 86

I would argue that tu has done less with more for quite a while.

tu has played for the NATIONAL title TWICE, since we won our only outright BDF title. Sure, they do less with more, but we wrote the book on it.

The professionals picked us anywhere from #5 to #19 in preseason. They get paid to look at rosters, transfers, talk with other professionals, and get the inside scoop ALL YEAR LONG. Same with the guys that rank the recruiting classes. I wouldn't put too much faith in these data points.

Doesn't seem wise to use weak stuff like that as ammunition to get the coach..

It's a no-character complaint by know nothings. But just think about the simple claim we have only two 5* players that aren't fish. Who thought we would win an NEC this year? You were delusional…

So Fisher needs more than five years at $9mil per year to figure out how to be better than Kansas and App State and Miss State????? WAKE UP!!!!!! Fisher is a Fraud.

Now re-do the rankings for players that are actually still on the team. We lost so many players from 2018/19 that either left early for the NFL or transferred to other programs or careers ended due to injury or just plain were busts.

We seem to get hit by the "focussing on the draft" card more than most. Gotta figure it out

You mean the collection of 22 year olds who have had 4 years in a D1 strength and conditioning program?
And our collection of 18 year olds fresh outta high school?

Granted, we should still win that game, but let's not act like they suck, and let's not act surprised that we didn't dominate physically

A&M is the ONLY program that graduates kids, have kids go to the NFL, drop out, transfer, not pan out, etc.????? Really???? Really???? $9mil a year for one of the WORST offenses in the entire FBS and losing to programs like App State and Miss State who have waaaaaaay, waaaaaay less resources than what Fisher has.

Yeah, you keep drinking that Fisher Kool-Aid. This is Sumlin all over again,

OK State is a good team, but they likely play 1 team that's good.

Syracuse has been mostly terrible teams.

We're never going to hear the end of this, are we?

The 1975 team was better, but since they weren't coached by Santo Jimbo, they don't count.

Y'all have already stated it here, but we are the youngest team in the SEC by far this year. If you research, historic stats say unless you are a team that has stacked several
Top 10 classes in a row, you'll struggle when you are youngest.

Our frustrations are more about actually having several experience highly touted classes over the last 15-20 years and laying 7-5 eggs time after time. Our patience is running extremely thin as a result.

Next season will be a true final barometer for Jimbo. If we come out slow and not executing and don't improve, it's 100% a coaching issue.
