I saw some blurb last night that Herman will be an analyst on the CBS show this year; more power to him. However, that reminds me of a funny story regarding Ol' Tommy.

A few years back when he was still at tu, I had reason to go to the campus of Klein Collins HS. I checked in at the front office, lady says they know you are coming, drive your car around to the back and park there. OK, I do all that, I kinda knew where I was going anyway. I get out of my car, go to the coaches door and another secretary welcomes me and takes me to the football coaches office. I walk into the offices, introduce myself and we start talking stuff. One of the coaches ask if I follow A&M football, blah, blah, blah, we talk about Isiah, and the OL coach says, "Yeah you just missed him; TAMU's #1 recruiter just left our office." I'm thinking what the hell? Before I could respond, the coach says, "Yep you just missed Tom Herman; he's TAMU's best and #1 recruiter." It took about .500/second and the room just blew up laughing. I'll never forget that conversation.

I have a friend who has several cousins in the CFB coaching circle, and apparently its pretty well known that TH is a complete dick and none of the other coaches really like the guy. I think the whole story with him and CUM burned a lot of bridges with the coaches since it was like he ratted out CUM, which is a big no no in the coaching fraternity. It must be why he is having a hard time getting another CFB job.

Oddly enough, the people I know who are friends with the sip players tell me that the players liked him and had no bad feelings towards him.

I obviously don't know Herman, but he always struck me as having both "smartest guy in the room" syndrome on top of "little man" syndrome. Doesn't seem like those two would mix well together.

I saw him speak at a few UH events. He seemed very polite. Never heard anything negative about him being a "dick," but he definitely had a nerdy socially awkward vibe. People who want their coaches to be good ol' boys who hang out and drink beers with them might find him off-putting.

He did talk one time about how his father was never in his life, and his coaches and sports were his whole life growing up, and that sort of makes sense.

I've shared this a few times, but Herman asked a top rated RB recruit out of DFW a few years ago to talk alone in the coaches room.

The RB said he couldn't wait to get out that room and that Herman was just going on about how "We are Texas" for an hour.

Not sure about terms of his TU deal but guessing he's still collecting buyout $$$ and the contract has offset language. I think he probably took NFL job last year just to see what it was like and realized he didn't belong. He's not going to get another prime D1 job. But expect him to get lower level p5 job or decent mid major in the next few years. He's Kevin Sumlin. He just didn't negotiate a Kevin Sumlin friendly contract.

So I guess you could say Herman was better than Sumlin? They both proved they could win at UH but sucked when put in charge of a top program. And Sumlin has botched his next opportunity. I guess we will have to see what Herman does with his.
