Like that goober Kyle Umlang...he just can't get out of his own way and his first name is our football field. He should have sued his parents and changed his first named to Darrell or Royall or something equally depressing. js

It's different to go scorched earth against folks lobbing untrue information and accusations than it is to burn conferences and business partners in an attempt to gain advantage for yourself. What we are doing now does not equate to what tu did in the Big12 or in the SWC.

I don't think scorched earth would benefit us this time.

I think we had a missed opportunity here. I can see Jimbo saying "we didn't buy these players because we don't need to. Instead we sold them on what A&M has to offer". Then proceed to list all the that A&M has done and is doing. Discuss the enrollment, the alumni base, the degree plans, the endowment and all their rankings within the conference and nationally. Then discuss the age of all the new athletic facilities and all the facilities we have budgeted to build and their rankings as well. Then when they ask again "but what about what Saban said?" Jimbo can respond "because they can't compete with us right now ".
After that happens once or twice, the media may leave us alone because they don't want to give us a chance to promote the university.

Many people are ignorant on how much A&M has grown and changed in the last 40 years and that is why the narrative continues to be "A&M has to pay people to go to that little old military school ".

I agree with this and I think we could have publicly addressed these allegations more professionally. However us reacting like this is nowhere near even in the same ballpark as how tu has behaved over the past few decades.

I disagree. Scorch earth. Slap them in the face and kick them down below. They are liars. "Bought every player on the team" is a lie.

Jimbo was professional, told no lies and just stated to look into Saban's process. We know the SEC is not going to nor the NCAA.

Even Saban's attempt at an apology is not an apology.

Agree. BCS has a population of 268k and is no longer the small Ag school all the media dumbshiits keep throwing out there. And most folks would choose a great college town over an inner city school location that is surrounded by rundown neighborhoods and tent cities

I'd call it hyperbole.

hyperbole
[ol]
  • A figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect, as in I could sleep for a year or This book weighs a ton.
  • In rhetoric, an obvious exaggeration; an extravagant statement or assertion not intended to be understood literally.

When combined with other national media stories implicating, or stating, similar; paid $30M+, etc., it's no longer hyperbole.

It's at best perpetuating a falsehood.

Appreciate most of what Billy does and he is certainly a die hard Aggie. Impossible for Billy to be unbiased but I do feel he is less biased than most super fan "journalists".

However, Billy and the entire administration needs to move on. It isn't a good look and it is a wasteful effort. What is the benefit? People have made up there minds. Right or wrong. These tweets come across as being a whiner. I prefer to ignore it, move on, focus energy on things you can actually control and let's prove ourselves on the football field. A lot of us Ags are turning more and more into Texas and LSU fans.

I was a bit embarrassed looking at some of these responses from Looch. Some of them a bit childish and hypocritical. Just some honest feedback, Billy. You are appreciated. And I absolutely get the anger!!! I'm pissed myself but nothing you say will matter if we don't win. In fact, your words may ne used against you.

So if I publicly stated that last year you had nonconsensual sex with 21 highschool aged kids, that would be another example of hyperbole as well? If I made this claim known to your family, friends, and everyone in your industry and at your place of work? Just hyperbole, right?

That would be a lie. Are you are saying that NIL did not factor into recruiting at all? NIL is being weaponized on the recruiting landscape by a lot of schools. A&M signed the #1 class. That's going to attract attention. Deal with it.

Jimbo admitted that 1 of the 11 early enrolled athletes has a NIL deal. He did not discuss the others coming this summer.

    So Saban exaggerated for effect.

Saban did not exaggerate within the context of his statement. If you're suggesting bought is hyperbole for NIL then when Saban said they "didn't buy one" he is lying. They have NIL deals at Bama. This is fairly simple logic.

The suggestion that the driving reason A&M had a good class is NIL is a lie. If you want to bring up NIL as a factor you should probably look for the school that signed a top 10 class including 6 quality offensive linemen after going 5-7 and losing to Kansas while advertising $50K a year for offensive linemen. That is not hyperbole. That is fact.

Saban accused A&M of something that is against the law, discredited our staff's great efforts, and accused our players and their families of doing something illegal and lesser morals. Unless you have proof that this happened, just not to the extent that Saban said, it is a lie. If you choose to further pushing that lie then you can kindly STFU here and go post your bull**** on longwhorn boards.

This is 1000% NOT hyperbole. Saban knew what he was saying, he just didn't know it was being recorded. I agree though, it's time to move on and pound that SOB's team into the ground.

One out of 11 being "bought" implies two things:

    1. No one asked our compliance what the truth was.
    2. Saban meant to hype the situation. It was intentional.
    The Agly Duckling
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Our "buying" all of our players makes no sense, on any level, for anyone who knows anything about recruiting.

For one instance, I would be shocked if NIL weren't a consideration for any school that had a realistic shot at landing these guys. With the $50K per O-lineman and Lamborghini's from the sips, to around a mil or so for Brice Young the summer prior, to the BYU group paying for schollies for all walkons, it's absurd to think that NIL was "the reason" we got this class, especially with the confluence and timing all of the other events that took place which actually have mattered in recruiting for decades and decades.

Ridiculous. Like Jimbo said, "Clown Acts." Glib, shill-based, repeated spin narratives that lack common sense and logic.
