Great video on how the narrative of never being good enough to get a championship is now being moved from Smart to Fisher. Pate also mentions how no matter what kind of logical reasoning you give to dispel the narrative, the haters will always move the goalposts and set arbitrary standards to continue said narrative.

We're so close to winning the championship, and the others know this and are getting scared. If the reactions to our recruiting class indicates anything, people are gonna start wanting us to lose our games more than before. We're definitely gonna have to enjoy being the "bad guys".

Unless we find a quarterback I have not gotten the feeling that we are really that close. Talent wise maybe but we haven't come close to any kind of consistency, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

Even more genius, The haters have already set themselves up for the next goalpost moves for years to come. It's simple. Every year we win a national championship, they will say we cheated to get it(whatever that even means anymore with NIL). We could win 10 titles and none will ever be validated. It's obvious they have already laid that foundation.

Until I see a consistent passing game, I'm not getting my hopes up with Jimbo.

There is zero excuse for not having better QB play and WR route running and catching. ZERO!

Players not testing well at pro day is not a good sign.

In all honesty, we don't even need the QB to be that exceptional. With so much talent we have on the roster now, we just need a QB that's just one grade over Mond and I think we'll be getting to places very soon. And frankly, I think King or Johnson (Weigman in the future) are, at worst, "good enough".

With that being said, if they actually do end up sucking, then yeah, we panic, TexAgs style.

We lost 1 game in 2020 to the Champs. Last year we would have lost 1 or 2 with a first year starter had King not been injured.

Not that close???

Unfortunately we will never get "close" until we can both beat Alabama AND win the games we shouldn't lose in the same season. That's something we have never been able to do.

That said, only a very small group of teams ever really get close. I truly believe that we are a QB away from being in the mix sometime in the next couple years. Here's to hoping we find him this year and develop the talent around him.

I think we already found him. But he's gonna have to wait in the wings at least this year.

I really think we're closer than many think. 80 years of BAS has just conditioned us to believe it's never going to happen

Georgia hasn't had a quarterback since Stafford. Well, except the one they lost to Ohio st.

True enough....but they did win it all last year.

What game do we lose last year with above average QB play? Maybe LSU? I think we would win the others and 11-1 with a win over Bama would have us in Atlanta.

To Jimbos credit, he has gone out and signed a transfer who is a capable SEC starter and a 5 star QB.

"never being good enough to get a championship is now being moved from Smart to Fisher."

I could, I say I could be mistaken, but I do believe Jimbo did "get" a championship already and is working on his second one.

Last year was THE perfect example of the old adage:

You are correct that better QB play likely means wins against Arkansas, Miss St, Ole Miss and LSU. However that does not guarantee that we still beat Alabama. If a different guy is taking snaps then that is an entirely different game with an unknown outcome.

This was a great video about how the narrative of never being good enough to win a championship has shifted from Kirby Smart to Jimbo Fisher. Jimbo Fisher will have a much tougher path to the SEC Championship Game than Kirby Smart because winning the SEC West will require beating Alabama and finishing with no more than one conference loss. The closest we came was in 2020, when our only loss was to eventual champion Alabama. Last year, it was disappointing how we beat both Alabama and Auburn at home in the same year but lost to the rest of the SEC West. I can understand the losses to 9-4 (4-4 SEC) Arkansas and at 10-3 (6-2 SEC) Ole Miss, but the losses to 7-6 (4-4 SEC) Mississippi State at Kyle Field and at 6-7 (3-5 SEC) LSU were devastating.

For 2022, I am expecting 10-2 regular season and 2nd in the SEC West to secure a NY6 bowl birth. If that happens, this will be our first 10-win season since finishing 11-2 in 2012 and 2nd NY6 bowl appearance in 3 years. With the talent Jimbo Fisher has recruited, I can see us beating Alabama at Kyle Field and finishing 11-1 (only loss at Ole Miss or LSU) to win the SEC West in 2023. Even if that happens, we will have to beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Game to punch a ticket to the College Football Playoffs. Hopefully we can achieve these goals by 2023.

I think with above average QB play, we still would have lost at Ole Miss because it was our toughest road game. Ole Miss finished 10-3 (6-2 in SEC games), including 7-0 at home. I am not sure if we would have beaten Alabama at home because a different guy taking snaps changes that game entirely. Still, I think we would have beaten Arkansas, Mississippi State, and LSU and finished 10-2 to tie with Ole Miss for 2nd in the SEC West.

How quickly this thread turned into "if we only had above average QB play". That reminds me of the drunk Ole Miss fan who came up to me after a heroic JFF come back on the road and said "man, you guys are good but we are so close to being GREAT! If we only had Johnny Manziel on our team, we would be unstoppable!"

QB play should improve this year, but we might have missed our window with the departure of Mike Elko. I think he is the best DC in the country.

It might be a short sample size, but we already have a very very good QB. Yes, King has a lot he still needs to show and Johnson has already proven he can be a starting SEC QB. But nobody would be shocked if 1 or both of them ended up holding a clip board, waiting for their chance.

Both of them COULD start for A&M, but I feel like everyone here would agree that CW WILL start at QB for A&M, it isn't if, but when. CW is the type of QB A&M needs to win it all. With King or Max, we could still get to the playoffs. If you have a very talented team, all the sudden you're QB becomes 1 of 3 things. 1, he's a liability who's play or decision making costs you a playoff win or the MNC. 2, He's serviceable and does just enough to put you in a position to win, but ultimately becomes up to others. 3, he is THE reason you win with his play, leadership and wins shear will. The GOAT effect

I could see King maybe being a type 1 or borderline type 2.

Max is more like his dad I think, a type 2.

CW to me as type 3 written all over him. But I guess let's see him against an SEC defense on the road. I hope and feel like it will be a JFF situation. You'll just know in the first couple of series he plays in a real game.

But seriously we have 3 above average QBs now so stop talking about lack of QB, those days are over.

We lost that game by 28 points. If we find a stud qb in the next couple of years we could definitely make a run at a natty, but let's not get carried away by saying we are close to that level currently.

Not picking on Anais but if he makes that catch (looked to be very catchable) on 4th down with less than 2 minutes in half, we wouldn't have gone into halftime down 21 points.

Calzada didn't have much to do with defensive collapses and bone headed offensive calls in those losses. Let's keep perspective.

The perspective is that Jimbo is the best coach we've ever had. Get down on you knees and thank God. He will win the national championship at TAMU

And yet calzada also ruined just as many drives as Jimbo play calling did

We could win 4 National Championships starting in 2023, the $ips move to the SEC in that run, doing the exact same NIL we are, then they win one after our run and the media (haters) would say it's the first legitimate National Championship in 5 years.

Objection, speculation.

There is no way to know if King would have been any better or worse than Calzada. King did not look like a world beater against Kent St.

We had more than enough talent to beat Arky, Miss, Miss St, and LSU...So, yes, not close...Just go to the LSU game if you don't think coaching can be questioned.

Calzada was Jimbo's player in Jimbo's system. Many other coaches are doing more with their passing game with less. Do you have an excuse for why last year Baylor did more with far lower-ranked recruiting classes and a newer coach? They had more players drafted as well.

There is a long list of teams that are able to complete a forward pass with regularity. Apparently, they are better at developing or identifying talent that was ranked lower coming out of HS.

This year, will one of Jimbo's 5 star WR's be able to gain separation? Will a QB be able to hit a moving target or complete more than one medium deep ball per game?
