Not thinking Durkin since Linebackers is his specialty and Jimbo seemed like he was intent on keeping Santucci. I wouldn't put much hope on a big name from the college ranks. I still think Aaron Glenn has a shot.

I mean, I can see people maybe making the point that he's not been a DC all that much. Stanford and now Auburn. Yes, he called the D after his first year at Vandy, but he's not got Elko-like experience.

And honestly, he didn't even suck at Vandy considering that they're Vandy. He actually made them somewhat decent with what they gave him to work with. They had some really solid defenses under him.

I'm not going to argue that Mason is a bad DC, but he was 27-55 at Vandy, so he didn't really elevate that team at all. He had a couple decent defenses in 15-16, but otherwise they were largely puke.

You presented a solid argument for Mason in a different post, although I think the available evidence is pretty weak.

DJD has a more established and better track record imo, and looks to be an ace recruiter as well.

Also, no one has called Mason a scrub anyone calling Mason a scrub is stupid.. Just like anyone saying DJD "killed" is kid is equally stupid.

Whoever Jimbo hires is fine…

Adding to say - I doubt DJD gets another HC shot b/c of what happened at MD (rightly or wrongly), so I have less worry about him leaving after a few years (if he's successful) for a better job/promotion.

However Jimbo decides to hire as DC should get our support. He did well with the Elko hire. Durkin has done a good job as DC elsewhere.


Anybody who plays football knows it is extremely strenuous and I am comfortable Jimbo has established guidelines to respond to emergency situations.

And Mason would also be worthy candidate. Definitely not a scrub but more likely to leave after a couple of good years.

Our D will have tremendous talent. Gonna make somebody look really good!
