Just reported on 247 he might potentially flip (but not likely) to Deon Sanders at Jackson State?

*Ok, commit to JSU. Just a rumor but they said not likely.

Imagine committing there not realizing that as a defensive player, you'll lose money in the draft because everyone will say you put up monster numbers against an average talent pool.

Any big time 5* that signs there will regret it. Once the excitement of NSD wears off and you have to go play in dumpy stadiums, with a few thousand people in attendance, and don't have access to first rate nutrition centers and workout facilities, they'll realize they aren't making themselves any better and regret it. The SEC forces you to be better, the SWAC doesn't. They can still play with sloppy technique and just out-athlete their competition. That won't help you come draft time.

Years ago a top 10 recruit (TE) committed to Alcorn because his family wanted him to attend a HBCU. All well and good but I don't remember him having a stellar career in college or NFL and not even sure he got drafted.

Good points above. These guys will regret not having the facilities, nutrition, "additional nutrition" , etc. Then they will get dinged at least 1/2 a round to 1 round in draft status for playing at a SWAC school.

Wouldn't be surprised- the recruit they just flipped from FSU is rumored to have got a bag in the millions. With Deion there and NIL money flowing like water I could see kids passing on big programs if they get a bigger paycheck.

Hopefully it's only a rumor especially since Travis Hunter "flipped" to JSU.

Jackson State football falls just short of attendance record at Alcorn game

Jackson State plays in a 65,000 seat stadium and their avg attendance for the year was 36,000 just short of the FBS avg (41,000). Not to mention they play in several neutral site *Classic games in NFL stadiums. They are playing in the Celebration Bowl this year in Atlanta's Mercedes Benz Dome and the game is already sold out. There will be more people in attendance at their bowl game than ours likely.

They are also building new football facilities.

Here's what Jackson State University strategic plan means for athletics

Are they on par with the big boys, no. But they have a bigger stadium than some power 5 programs and improving facilities so let's not act like they are playing in dumps.

And getting NIL money that has likely already been promised or given to top recruits and the more that will come, they can get their own programs up and running.

Not every SWAC school can do this, but to think that the playing field hasn't been somewhat leveled for the select few stars/programs out there is a bit naive, imo.

I can see how a stud corner could overlook going the traditional route to be coached by Deion sanders. I wouldn't do it but I can see it, I do have a hard time seeing a defensive lineman feeling the same way. I could be wrong but it is not the same thing

Long term I think a lineman going to a small school in a weak conference would be a bad idea, would not be able to develop NFL type skills playing against weak competition. He may be able to throw them around but when he gets to the NFL he may not have the form he needs.

Yeah but they got a lot of attention on NSD. Isn't that what's important?

I think every SWAC coach just wont throw to his side of the field...how the hell do you show anything or improve is you are essentially never tested.

If you are good, you're good. There are several players from SWAC schools in the NFL. Not to mention some all-time great players who attended SWAC programs.

Ed Oliver was a 5 star going into college at UH and still got 5 star money coming out. If you're that dang good, it might not matter where you go to college. That being said, Oliver played across town from an NFL stadium and had easy access to NFL reps coming to town every other week for 3 years. JSU is a decent way away from the nearest NFL teams. Like detmer and others have said, seems odd to commit somewhere ONLY because of the coach, and forgo to benefits of being a star athlete at a major university.

Sure, there are a few NFL players at these programs most years, but they don't go 1st round. They are really bad teams and competition comparatively. Jackson States toughest opponents the next 2 years will be ULM & Texas St. Top FCS schools who occasionally have high draft picks would annihilate Jackson St even with a few of these top recruits.

They will certainly get NFL attention and likely drafted, but they will get dinged barring they run a 4.1 40 or something crazy like that.

They'll take the year 1 money then transfer to where they actually want to play. Nice job, NCAA.

College football is a big revenue sport for good programs. There is a movement ongoing in the black community to try and get elite black athletes to play at HBCU's so that those programs can benefit from the cash cow that is college football (basketball too) and raise the stature of those institutions on the national stage from an athletic standpoint. The revenue will help those institutions in other areas as well.

So we are saying Jackson State has more NIL money than Florida State? That doesn't sound right unless Jeff Bezos is secretly a Jackson State fan.

Don't know about Bezos but apparently bar stool sports is. I've seen 3M being thrown around as what they gave him.

Then again, IIRC, Bezos wife gave a bunch of money to Prairie View, so maybe indirectly you could say he's an HBCU fan.
