Listening to Luicci over the last week, he gave me the impression that outside the NY6, it's really up to the bowls for who they want, specifically when talking about the 3 FL bowls we were in contention for.

If so, then why the heck aren't the Aggies attractive? Especially why the heck would the Gator want us again especially in a matchup vs Wake since we just played them a few years ago. Wouldn't the bowl committee figure the fan bases for these schools would be pretty disinterested.

Still don't get how Citrus chose a lower ranked, H2H loser UK team years ago that sent us to Gator bowl.

Mainly because we don't sell any tickets. We didn't travel for squat to the Gator Bowl in '18 and historically we've traveled even worse for other bowl games outside of Texas. Aggie fans typically will not get on a plane to support the team like other fan bases will.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Yeah I know. Weren't we ranked higher than them 3 years ago when Citrus. took them?

Kentucky was the correct choice. They have a better record than us or Arkansas, and are ranked higher.

I am a little surprised by the rematch versus Wake Forest. I expected Arkansas v Wake in the Gator, and A&M v Penn State or Wisconsin in the Outback.

Seems so odd for a fan base that puts 100k in stands at Kyle for Prairie view

Interesting. Why is that? We have a large fanbase.

I know what you all are saying about rankings, but Luicci said these are all same level, especially Outback and Gator (other than personal preference for fans). If it's truly up to bowl committee, then WTH does 1 more win or ranked 2 spots higher really matter?

It's always about the money. So I guess they have the data supporting a&m fans don't travel well.

Citrus Bowl is a higher tier. They get first grabs, and take the best team.

After that, a ton of bowls are technically on the same level. I don't think anyone thinks Arkansas got a better bowl than we did, besides the opponent.

According to your signature, they could run, walk or soar to get there without getting tired

I always understood the SEC was instrumental in placing teams below NY6. I'm sure they lobbied for A&M to get the worst matchup possible which Wake is.

There may have been 80,000 asses in the seats that day, maybe. I know, I was there and there were plenty of empty seats. Dude, A&M is 8-4. Take the maroon glasses off.

random hot take: bowl games used to be season-ending statement games, and now seem to be season-ending exhibitions with opt-out players and little on the line as far as national or conference prestige. Unless you are in the playoff, your season is pretty much done after the conference championship games. On the other hand, i love having a few more games to watch, but bowl season ain't what it used to be.

Yes the Ags will sell tickets for the Texas Bowl.
As a fan base we don't travel well for out state bowl games.

As Luke mentioned , 2018 Gator Bowl between Ags and NC state. All we heard about SEC Bowls was we wanted a Florida bowl game. Got one and it ended up being the worst attended Gator Bowl since 1955.

Other out state not including Covid Years for any bowl attendance records.

Belk Bowl in 2017 - lowest attended Belk Bowl in its history which started in 2002.

Music City Bowl in 2015- at time was the lowest attended Music City bowl in 10 years. Current ranks as the 3rd lowest attended music city bowl since 2006 and 7th lowest all time in its history

Liberty Bowl 2014- at time was the 2nd lowest attended liberty Bowl of the previous 14 years. Currently ranks as 5th lowest attended liberty bowl in last 22 years

Peach Bowl 2013- at time was lowest attended Chickfila/ Peach Bowl in last 8 years and 2nd lowest in previous 17 years.
Currently sits as 3rd worst attended in last 23 years.

A&M does not travel well to out state bowl games.

Yikes. I know most of those years ended in somewhat disappointing seasons compared to preseason expectations, but that's not a great look for the fanbase.

I was hoping we would get an Outback bowl, but I can see why their committee would look to a closer regional option.

We traveled so poorly for the gator bowl but they put it back in the gator bowl. Makes sense.

The SEC assigns the games. Only Citrus picks. And dirty secret is they really don't care about attendance.

They make sense based on standings.

Kentucky had a better conference record, and Arkansas finished ahead of us in the conference standings. Thus, They got the better two bowls

It seems to me the takeaway is every fanbase has increasing apathy for bowl games since our record low just gets beat out by several other teams the following years.

The take away, is that if you want a well attended bowl game, it needs to be a vacation destination or driving distance.

I didn't hear what Looch said, but my impression was that in recent years, the conferences and networks do a lot of juggling to determine matchups and TV schedule. I'm not sure how much range the selection committees get to choose from, once they get past contractual tie-ins and selection order. All the host committees care about is attendance.

As others said, I don't see much difference in status outside of the playoffs or conference champion tie-ns. There are ok bowls, and then there are places where you might be worried about finding a nice hotel. That's it.

While it would probably be naive and wrong to suggest that A&M had NOTHING to do with any of that, I would like to see ALL bowl attendance figures over the last decade. I suspect travel over the bowl season has curtailed during this period with the advent of cheap, HD TV viewing. Even 20 years ago, watching a football game on TV was fine but it wasn't anything like it is today. You really have to want to go somewhere for almost a week to go to a bowl and spend upwards of $2500 or more, depending on how many are going. All this means lower attendance anywhere.

Now, if you come back and say bowl attendance is steady or increasing, then yeah, its an A&M issue all the way. But I have my doubts.

Plus, none of these bowls you listed were any bowls that I've ever had a desire to attend as a 45+ year college football fan. I'm sure many other Aggies share my view here.

This link seems to suggest attendance is generally on the decline. I'd run a t test to see if it's significant but I'm on Texags to procrastinate and not have to do statistics.
