What is drawing out the inevitable move to more playoff games?

My guess is the TV contracts were only lucrative for 4 teams at the time. Think we've all seen this backfire. The semifinal games have more often than not not been competitive because the litmus test and unbalance between conferences makes picking the 4 best teams nearly impossible.

Playoff expansion can't happen soon enough

Mentioned this morning by several reporters that talks have stopped, and it's at least 4-5 years away.

The P5 schools want auto bids in place, rightfully so unless you want a bunch of Cincinnati's in the playoffs.

The NCAA is always 5 years behind on getting things done unless we have a minor recruiting violation.

Playoff Expansion = multiple 20 point blowouts in the 1st round.

Yes, this year proves we need playoff expansion to 8 teams. That is plenty. No more.

That would put pitt & Utah in the playoff

Pitt & Utah would rank around 5-8 at best if they played in the sec

Some talk show folks were saying that the SEC is holding up the deal because the SEC is against an 8 team playoff and autobids, and the other folks want to scale it down to 8 with 6 (really 7) autobids.

If we had an 8 game playoff this year. In addition to the final four, you would add Baylor, Utah, Norte Dame, and Pitt. Does that excite anyone?

I love how the Alliance members just screwed themselves again trying to make the SEC look bad and they aren't even smart enough to realize it. They could have had the 12-team playoff starting 2023, but they fought back because they wanted to rub Sankey's nose in it and avoid letting him get his way. As a result, the SEC has half the playoff field this year and the ACC, Big 12, and PAC 12 are all left at home twiddling their thumbs. The Big 10 dodged a bullet because if Iowa had beaten Michigan, then the Big 12 would have been left out of the playoffs too, and we'd have seen the SEC battling it out with a G5 team and ND.

This year should change the minds of the Alliance members and they'll get over their ego. A 12-team playoff is the only way it'll work.

Nothing more exciting than watching a four loss Notre Dame get trounced.

Nah, just because he's the chair of the best conference in college football. The Alliance members are voting against what he wants simply because it's what he wants. In the process, they're cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

Are you asking if I'd like to see more high stakes football games at the end of the season with "win or go home" implications? I'm in.

I don't think any of those teams could win the championship, but could one of them trip up Michigan or Cincinnati - or even UGA or Bama in a single game? Yeah, for sure. Anything can happen in a single game. That's why we play. 12 teams is about right. Automatic bid for the conference champs +best G5 champ and the rest at large bids. It would be more fun than isolated bowl games.

the obvious problem with autobids...

they water down the field.

as previously mentioned...Utah and Pittsburgh would not strengthen the playoff field this year --- they would weaken it

We get that now in the first round and the championship game.
3 of the 7 championship games so far have been decided by more than 20 points and another by 17.
We might as well get another couple weeks of ranked teams playing each other. Season is down to 3 meaningful games already and feels like it just started. I need another 3-4 weekends of playoff games.

It's embarrassing that division 3 has a better playoff than division 1. 16 team playoff and Let the teams settle all on the field. To add incentive to win out, top seeds get to play at home. Best for the teams, best for the fans, best for the schools.

Only the national championship game should be at a neutral site.

6 autobids and only 2 at large died nothing to help the best teams get in

As a Texas A&I grad, our family followed the Javelinas' undefeated seasons and multiple championships during the 70's. One thing I remember are the blow-outs during the "play-offs", and our friend, Coach Steinke worrying about injuries or flu/sickness.

There are very few years where more than 3 or 4 teams deserve to play for a national championship. Have a decent schedule, win all your games, be a conference champion, and don't lose your last game prior to selection day.

It's simple, but hard for most, like it should be.

Why would anyone want more college football games with real stakes? I'm way more interested in the San Diego county poinsettia bowl than a game that actually has consequences!

If Utah plays in the sec west, I'm not sure they finish ahead of A&M
