Will Haynes King be classified as a 3rd-year Freshman next season?

COVID has totally effed up my understanding of what year players are in college sports. It is my understanding that King received a redshirt for only playing in two games during the 2020 season. Now, in 2021 King got hurt vs Colorado in Game 2 so does he receive a medical redshirt for the year? I also remember hearing that all 2020 athletes get a year of eligibility back, so he will most definitely be a freshman again next year right?

Last year didn't count at all for anyone
Medical red shirt this year

So, red shirt freshman I would think.

Technically, he still has a red shirt year available, too

Appreciate the response! Crazy to think that he could be our QB in 2025, or maybe even 2026 like you said.

You're right about RS freshman.

But you can only use a medical redshirt (greyshirt) AFTER you use a normal redshirt. So yes, he will be a 3rd year freshman next year, but the only way he redshirts ANOTHER time is at the expense of another season ending injury.

Calzada is also a 3rd year freshman right now!

Yeah, I just recently learned because I have a friend I grew up with who was held back a year in elementary school, redshirted his freshman year of college in 2017, greyshirted 2018, didn't lose eligibility in 2020 and can play 7 years of college football. He can be like 26 and still play
