Elko is a great defensive mind. LSU is famous for the DB's that have come through that program. Hot bed for recruiting, owns the state of Louisiana and Woodward was always very high on Elko during his time here...

We know that Elko's name has been tossed around in the past for several P5 openings...

Just curious if the Zoo thinks this anything that we should be concerned with or not..?

Lots of HC's would have to say no before LSU offers a coordinator that job

I remember a period when LSU was all about D, won a NC, and canned a coach because his offense usually sucked.

Lsu is not smart enough to go with a defensive minded coach, this is why the let Aranda walk.

In fact, corndog has fired the last few coaches that have won them a natty, and if they don't already have their next coach lined up, they're in trouble.

If Elko wants to be a HC, I think he's leaving sooner rather than later. As in this year or next two. 10 years as a DC and either you want to be on the head coach track or you are happy being a very highly paid assistant. Both are valid career paths. But if he wants to be on the head coach track, he's going to a Group of 5 school, not a Power 5.

Woodward wants/needs a splash hire. Though I think Elko is an excellent HC prospect, he would not generate the buzz LSU is looking for.

I respectfully disagree

I think Elko stays a few more years. Have you seen the defensive haul we are about to bring in recruiting? I think he stays approximately 3 more years, brings our defense up to 2021 Georgia level, and then takes a big 10 HC job.

Unless LSU hires Brian Kelly from ND and ND offers Elko the HC job. He may leave for that.

LSU will not hire a coordinator to be a HC.

They are going to hire someone with head coaching experience and recruiting experience so no.

LSU is going to go after a proven Power 5 conference coach and wont hire a coordinator for their first head coaching job. A lot of people are saying Billy Napier would be a too big of a risk.

Of course it's a possibility. Just like faster than light travel is a possibility. But they both have about the same probability IMO

LSU has troubles nobody wants to jack with. When Elko leaves, and he will leave at some point in time, it will be to a place better than LSU. That school has more s*** buried in the bayou than the rest of the SEC. The real problem is they don't realize how screwed up they really are. We won't lose Elko to LSU.

Exactly, if we can win a natty with dominant defense in the next year or two, Elko will be talked about like Kirby Smart was for several years before he finally got the Georgia job. Georgia was a dream job for Smart that set him up for success and he turned down multiple decent jobs in the years prior to that. I have no idea what Elko's dream job is but with what we are already paying him, he can afford to wait for whatever he wants.

That would never happen and makes absolutely no sense. Why would Elko ever make a lateral move like this to a program that needs more work? And to live in a **** hole swamp with half the state barely graduating 9th grade? Not like we can't pay him far more than LSU can afford.

I kind of expect it to remain so until the end of the regular season. LSU's next coach is most likely still coaching a team with bowl game aspirations.
