I have a good feeling.. Jimbo has been revealing all of his QB secrets to Calzada with a solid week to prepare.

This is going to be Zach's coming out party.

Book it.

So you think he was only whispering the best info to Mond the last three years? If Calzada hasn't absorbed the Jimbo coaching in 3 years in the same Qb room/group what makes you think he will absorb it in 3weeks as a starter?

Calzada will either give us some hope for the balance of the season or secure his place as the worst QB to start for the Ags in probably 25 years. This all happens today. Yikes!

This is Calzada's 3rd year in Jimbo's system. Yet he has rarely seen the field until 3 weeks ago.
Either Jimbo failed in his recruiting evaluation of Calzada or failed to develop him by giving him enough meaningful in-game reps or more reps with the 1's in practice over the last 2 years.
Personally i think Jimbo had to put every bit of focus on developing Mond because Mond wasn't really that great of a qb.
In the process..he just ignored the development of Calzada.
What you're seeing now is 2 prior years of neglect of qb 2.
And now it's a game of learning on the job.
Add to that an inexperienced OL due Jimbos neglect in recruiting and developing upperclassmen at OL and you see the painful results.
This has become a glorified practice and scrimmage year if you will.
No wins guaranteed...but lots of painful growing experiences.

The speculation and logical flow of this post is incredible.

This is undeniably, irrefutably true, at LEAST as far as gametime experience goes.

There were multiple opportunities to get him PT without risk of a loss. Said it then…saying it now.

And others were pointing out at least two years ago that once Jimbo makes a decision on QB1, QB2 aint seeing the field.

Calzada wasn't QB2 last year. King did get playing time. Doesn't that refute the irrefutable point?

Same thing can be said for King, and Calzada was QB2 two years ago, but it's understandable why you wouldnt KNOW that….

Well, if he can't be effective against this pass defense that MSU puts on field he can't be effective against anybody in SEC.

I have no faith in Zach myself. Will he improve? He better! But ultimately we need the entire team around him to step up and raise the entire level of play. We need the players to pick Zach up and heave him on their shoulders to help drag happy feet across the endzone! This means better blocking across the entire board and giving our RBs the ball consistently.

Zach is absolutely limited in his ability being a total headcase so far. We also need Jimbo to simplify the game to help all the youth process things quicker. I ultimately blame Fisher for what we have seen so far. I expect to see huge improvements this game or else we are completely screwed this season. Fisher? Time to do your thing and proof your worth as an "elite" top HC in college. Do your thing. And Zach? Lets shoot for 60% completions with no INTs. Manage the game...do not fear the game.

Calzada is what he is. It's only Jimbos fault for recruiting him. Maybe. The thought process could have been to have a non threatening qb3 to fill the roster with potential arm upside if he developed. Only Bama can pull off a roster of 5 stars on the bench waiting.

Some players practice better. It's possibly Jimbo has seen something we haven't and may not.

Need the Ol and are/Wr blocking to be better this week. Need the defense to have a faster start and not get us down 2-3 scores early,. If those two things happen, we win despite Zach. And that's how we are going to have to win 3 of the next 4 until king comes back and gives you a little more at qb imo

I agree he had to focus on Mond because Mond wasn't very talented. The more they reduced his role, the better he looked. But ignoring your backup QBs in the SEC is just plain foolhardy. I can't believe Fisher is foolhardy.

However, I have no other explanation for Calzada or the young OL we are fielding. We have supposedly been having top notch recruiting years (as reported by "experts") for quite awhile. How are we continually stuck with underclassmen year after year?

The one explanation I like the least is that this is a throwaway year to get experience and coaching into the young guys for the next few years. What I'm left with is that we've had very bad recruiting years that have been misreported.

Those are the things he eventually had to do with mond. So basically, Fisher should already be doing that. However, for Mond, he did that by focusing on and improving the run game. Can our OL make holes? I guess we will see. Calzada needs OL help and fewer dropped passes. Don't know if that's enough or not, but it can't hurt.

Texags has a Depth Chart page that only shows 2 deep. Are we a couple of injuries from calling in some twelfth men from the stands?.

This is his 3rd season in program. I think it is safe to say that Calzada was a big miss. Georgia is probably extremely happy with their back up qb seeing that he is currently dismantling the team that donkey punched the Ags last weekend.

Not all recruits pan out, and Calzada was never supposed to be anything special. He was a 3 star recruit with a big arm. Jimbo took a chance on recruiting him to see if he could pan out into something special, and he didn't. Where we got screwed was moving Stowers to tight end, so essentially we didn't take any quarterback in the 2021 cycle and only had two scholarship guys on the roster. Most colleges have 3, sometimes even 4 quarterbacks on scholarships each season. We also don't have an offensive system that could take a true freshman and plug them in like most schools do. Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Clemson, Arkansas, etc. all have offenses built around modern football and what the current recruiting to draft cycles are.
Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

And he's playing behind an equal OL. Uhhh. Special teams have a score. That would have been enough for our 2nd teamer to probably win.
