Not all recruits pan out, and Calzada was never supposed to be anything special. He was a 3 star recruit with a big arm. Jimbo took a chance on recruiting him to see if he could pan out into something special, and he didn't. Where we got screwed was moving Stowers to tight end, so essentially we didn't take any quarterback in the 2021 cycle and only had two scholarship guys on the roster. Most colleges have 3, sometimes even 4 quarterbacks on scholarships each season. We also don't have an offensive system that could take a true freshman and plug them in like most schools do. Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Clemson, Arkansas, etc. all have offenses built around modern football and what the current recruiting to draft cycles are.
Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.
