Under the recommendation, schools can sign 25 new players while gaining additional signee spots for each player who transfers out of their programup to a limit of seven, sources tell Sports Illustrated. The transferring player must have left academically eligible. For instance, a school that loses five players to the portal can sign 30 new players. A school that loses 10 players to the portal can sign 32 new signees.

Looks like schools that get hit by the transfer portal can get up to +7 transfers themselves without counting against the 25.

From what I recall Jimbo hasn't had a lot transfer out of his own classes, one or two per year maybe. Thoughts?

Officially! Minor League Football.

My real question is... can you transfer during the season and still be eligible to play that season?!

May as well have a waiver system at this point.

How long until a player to be named later is traded mid season?

Looking at it it looks like we'll qualify for the full 32, Jimbo is gonna load this already loaded class.

I don't really see the need for 7 additional spots. With 25 scholarship offers a year, you already have to lose more than you bring in to stay at 85 scholarships. I think it should be up to 3 transfers for a max of 28.

Transfer spots are to refill when your transfers leave. But the whole system is focused on recruiting high schoolers and is arguably in failure due to transfers. Without this change fewer scholarships will go to high school graduates and more to transfers each year. Think potentially ZERO high school schollies.

What makes y'all say that up to an additional 7 spots only applies to bringing in other transfers? I read that as the ability to add up to 7 addition recruits.

I don't think many yet realize that in addition to the typical recruited->doesnt play->transfer to lower level team path, a new path was created this year which is recruited->stars on lower level team->transfer to high profile team with more NIL pull

The most important and hardest to deal with number will still be the 85 total (Covid increase not withstanding)

That was my reference to Minor League Football.

That's exactly how Minor League Baseball works. Players start, now at FCS and get recruited (or drafted) up to G5 and make their way to P4/5.

It is exactly what Patterson spoke about last week.

Quote:

Patterson goes on to say that schools are targeting one of his freshman that's currently on the roster. Patterson did not name the player.

"There's five SEC schools calling him and telling him, 'Here's what we'll give you if you come here and not stay at TCU,'" Patterson said to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. "At the end of the day, that's just real life. If we don't do anything about it, within a year we lose him. The rules have changed. There is no wrong anymore."

How long do you think Zach Evans stays at TCU?!

Gary Patterson has made a living taking 3Star recruits... red-shirting them and playing very experienced and disciplined defense. Once those players spend 2-3 years (including RS) at TCU opportunities will open for them to be Stars a NIL schools.

Is the total limit still going to stand at 85?

If it doesn't, we could quickly return to the days when "blueblood" programs would just sign all the great players in-state to keep them from playing against them.

yes, he's had some good safeties and corners the last few years that would have received transfer offers for their final season

The 85 limit is meaningless if there is a huge disparity in actual development between two programs due to investment differences. Especially if you actually can get NIL funding to cover costs.

We should be running shiii in women's gymnastics. Texas has one of the best youth gymnastics setups we should be recruiting all that talent not letting them go to other SEC schools that offer it.

Not sure on grad transfers.

For everyone else, not unless the old school signs a waiver. To use the 1-time transfer waiver, the transferring athlete must give notice on May 1 of that year.

I hate this rule, bc it incentivizes shoving out borderline athletes to make room for transfers. This is the P5 looking out for the P5. The average P5 programs will be able to rebuild their roster through the transfer portal. For the next 5 years, there will be an abundance of decent athletes in the transfer portal b/c 2020 did not count against eligibility.

They should have just capped everyone at 5 incoming transfers. That would have spread the wealth around and also ensured that HS kids got most of the scholarships.

Pittman went crazy with transfers b/c his roster was terrible. He probably decided the momentum he would gain from not being horrendous was worth missing out on some developmental players. And it looks like he was correct. His first recruiting class was good.

Chip Kelly is on the hot seat and decided to mortgage 2024 and 2025 in order to get himself to 2022.

Arky has 6 starters and another 4 on the 2 deep who were transfers. Only 2 were Jucos.

UCLA has 10 starters and another 3 on the 2 deep who were transfers. Only 3 were Jucos.

Arky:

Edge/Flex- Juco transfer
NT- FCS
SDE- Mizzou
WDE- (used more like another SDE in their system) Mizzou
2nd String NB- Penn St

LT- Juco
X WR-FCS
2nd Slot- ou
2nd RT- FCS
2nd LG- ND
2nd Punter- Colorado transfer (may have walked on)

UCLA:

LG- 'nova
WR- Kam Brown (recently took over b/c
RB1- Duke
2nd QB- UW
2nd RB- Michigan (is actually a better runner than RB1, not as versatile)

DE- (used more like a SDE) Juco
ILB-Juco
ILB- ND
OLB- Juco
CB- UNT
CB- Stanford
NB- Kent and Maryland
2nd ILB- Bama

And plenty of Jimbo recruits have transferred:
l
2018:
Tank Jenkins
Jeremiah Martin
Jashaun Corbin
James Foster
Glen Beal
Charles Strong
Mohammed Diallo

2019:
Dylan Wright
Kam Brown
Keshun Brown

2021:
Shadrach

In fairness, Jimbo reached on a bunch in the 2018 class out of necessity. Corbin was partially Jimbo's fault. The meddling mother and various crooks had plenty to do with it. Time will tell on the WRs. Keshun Brown was addition by subtraction.
