Every single one of you hardos who are gonna say "oh yeah we don't want to play tu on thanksgiving" are also gonna be the first in line when tickets go on sale.
Thanksgiving A&M/texas prime time games put asses in seats and eyeballs on ESPN.
So many folks are stuck on this myth.
I don't care whether we play LSU or Texas the final week. But, whoever it is, if we have any sense at all, the game will be played on Saturday and not Thursday.
Thanksgiving worked when: (1) we had on campus bonfire the night before the game; (2) going home for Thanksgiving wasn't universal among the students (particularly ones that didn't live close to BCS); and (3) there was no NFL night game.
After that changed, from 2001 onwards, we started seeing empty seats in the student section and ratings went down. Would ESPN still be happy to have the game on Thursday? Yes, but only because it would be better than the Egg Bowl. That's a low bar to clear, and they wouldn't care about the ghost town campus and empty seats.
An empty campus with less than normal tailgating is not an atmosphere that we want to bring recruits in for. Therefore, whoever we play that weekend, it needs to be on Saturday, when more student will come back to campus, and more tailgaters will be set up as per normal.
